Car cranks but doesn't start....
Car cranks but doesn't start....
a little background. I tried to start the car about a week ago and it sounded like one one of the rotors fired and then it died. I tried to turn it back on and it just cranked and cranked. After that I took the plugs out and found them wet, so I dried them off and cleaned them (pnumatic cleaner). While the plugs were out I dry cranked it and checked for spark...each plug sparked fine with the egi fuse in. I pulled the egi fuse and cranked it for a few second a couple of times to get all the extra fuel out. The injectors are working because the PFC is picking up injector duty cycle and I smelled fuel when the plugs were out. Then I put the plugs and the EGI fuse back in. I Hooked jumper cables and tried to fire it with no success. I know the crank angle sensor is working alright since the PFC is picking up RPMs also. The only other thing I can think of is the battery not having enough power even with a jump to start the car....anyone have any ideas what else it could be. I'm running out of ideas.
I had a similar problem with my car. In my case the fix was pretty simple. Just, buy new plugs, and follow the "flooded engine" procedure which is detailed in many places on this site.

I did the unflood procedure and I even put ATF fluid in the nipple on the UIM....that made it start for like a few seconds but very very rough, when I let off the throttle it just died.
does it start each time you put in atf but not without? I had a similar situation. Imagine when you put in the atf.......it starts........meaning you have spark, fuel and (with atf) compression. However when you dont put in ATF, you most probably have spark and fuel (otherwise with ATF the car wouldn't start) and low compression. I hope i'm wrong though.
About the battery........i think it has enough power for the car to start........otherwise it wouldn't start with the ATF.
And about the wet spark plugs........with low compression the plugs will be wet..........trust me i know. Hope i'm wrong here as well. (and when you idle for sometime with the ATF in you'll see the turbo area glowing RED)
think i've to be the bad guy here telling you to get a compression test.

my car flooded a few times with the plugs soaking wet... my compression was 120 on both rotors so , that always doesn't mean that. Just when you get it started hold the throttle down till all the smoke and **** clears out. you'll be fine
I don't think the engine is bad....It's only got like 5,000 miles on it. If it is then I'm gonna have to contact the aviation seal people. The thing just got broken in.
Unflooding these cars are rough. For me I just let all four plugs out and crank over for 15 seconds 3 times. Installed new plugs, and it fired up. What are the condition of your plugs are they fouled up? Plugs will tell you a lot about whats going on in the car. I would also get a new battery, sounds like your having trouble with yours.

I have a plug cleaner...it blasts the **** out of the dirt. It connects to an air compressor. My battery doesn't seem to happy with me so yeah I'm probally gonna order a new one. I tried the whole cranking 15 seconds 3 times thing. It can't hurt to try it again.
