Can't shift past 2nd gear
I just bought a 93 rx7 about 2 hrs ago, the only problem the car had is that it needed a new slave cylinder ( so have to pull the clutch out with foot when shifting sometimes). The car drove perfect while test driving , on the way home I didn't stump on the gas pedal at all, and now that I get it home it doesn't want to shift past 2nd not even reverse. Some one please help me!!!! And please don't tell me my tranny is mest up! Help!
Rock it and see if it will go into reverse. Also pull out the shifter and make sure the little plastic piece isn't broken. Start with the easy stuff first before you throw transmissions at it. Takes 5 minutes to pull the shifter out.

OP just changed slave cylinder.
Are you sure that the slave cylinder was bled correctly? Does it help if you pump the clutch several times?
I'm just wondering if there isn't air in your clutch line and it isn't disengaging all the way.

i'm also betting there is air in the line or someone adjusted the pedal too loosely. also check the brake fluid level as it could be low to the point that the clutch is sucking air.
does the transmission shift normally while car is off?

The OP did not say he replaced the slave cylinder. He said it needs to be replaced.
Regardless, a bad slave cylinder will cause the same problem on all gears, he said it works normally on 1st and 2nd, so even though it's bad, the slave cylinder isn't the problem.

slave cylinders just don't go bad because someone sais it is bad, if it isn't leaking then there is nothing wrong with it. slave cylinders are a basic piston so if the pedal moves and it isn't leaking then it is OK.
your description sounds like air in the line or a junk transmission with binding shift fork detent mechanism which requires at least partial transmission disassembly to repair.
what sounds like happened is someone sold you a car with a **** transmission and simply blamed a bad slave cylinder as the issue.
this isn't the car for you if money is tight anyways. 20+ year old sports car that is problematic on good days... no money... no.

^ Agreed
There's nothing besides the cylinders/shifter/clutch/tranny
If the cylinders were the problem, you would have a problem with the clutch pedal, it has nothing to do with the actual shifting into a gear.
If you took apart the shifter and everything is good there, you unfortunately have no choice but to pull the clutch/tranny and see what's wrong.
