Too much oil *can* cause trouble, as I found out not too long ago.

I overfilled my FD after an oil change, and this exacerbated a problem that was already there, but showed up with the excess oil. The rubber coupling on the stock y-pipe was old and oil was blowing out of it (at idle even!) and burning on the pipe. I talked to my mechanic (Ivan, for anyone that cares) and he indicated that overfilling can cause troubles beyond even what I saw (for the life of me I can't remember the explanation he gave me ) For what it's worth, he did mention that the FD should take no more than 4 quarts of oil after an oil change (might take more if the engine was totally dry), so if you're putting in more than that, stop!

I tend to put in 3 quarts of oil while the car is on stands, lower it, give it a minute or two to settle things, and then check the dipstick twice (just to be sure). Then I fill the car up about a quarter of a quart at a time to make sure I'm just kissing the top of the XXX marks on the dipstick.

As far as tranny oil, I dunno, sorry

Yes, according to the manual you should not under or over fill the oil!

Drain some of the oil out. You should only have about 3 and 1/2 quarts in there. Have you been driving it a lot since the oil change?

Damn man. Your honda has nothing to do with your FD. When you change the oil put in three quarts start the car for a few seconds to fill the oil filter. Then add oil until it is full according to that great invention called a DIP STICK!

I drain and filled with 4 quarts ran. Checked the stick was little low. Ran it for a few days and the same. I put in another 1/2 quart and its fine at full. So all in all I used 4 and a half quarts.

Pour oil in your oil filter BEFORE threading it on. You'd be surprised how much oil goes in there.

How in the hell do you keep in from spilling out as soon as you turn it upside down to install it?

Um you fill it up and let the oil go into the grooves of the filter. Then pour what you can back out of it, there should be some left in. Put it back in!! Masta Cow is right, the suprise on my face when that little thing took 3/4 quart to fill!
