Can stock ECU be reprogrammed ?

Hi !

I was wondering if a tunning shop can reprogram the stock ECU when FD gets new DP, MP, catback and intake ? Or must one get new programmable fuel computer ?

Thanks !

From what i know no. You can install a fuel regulator to adjust fuel pressure but anything else reallyn you must purchase a new computer.

There might be upgrade chips out there.

That's "basically" what the M2/Pettit/GForce/RE ECU's are, just reprogrammed stock ECU's.

You can get one of these ECU's without having a lot of mods. The only downside is that you will be running richer than normal which can/will effect your gas mileage (and spark plug longevity).

Hmm... does anyone know if the stock FD ECU ID code looks something like one of these IDs ? :

1. N38018881C
2. N3B7-18-881A
3. N38018881C

Thanks,
Tadej

Answer is YES (in a round about way), by Pettit or M2.

I didn't know they had a thing where they reprogram your old ecu. I thought they just send you their programed one.

Sorry for the confusion!

Hehe, I thought so, but I was told by the tunner that he can reprogram the abovementioned ECUs (with those ECU IDs). I don't know if FD has those IDs on the ECU.
Anyone knows ?

As far as I know, they don't really "re-program" the stock ECU, but use a different "re-programable" chip. I don't believe the stock ECU chips themselves are re-programable (but I could be wrong).

The way Pettit works is you send them your stock ECU (and some money), and they send you a reprogrammed ECU (which is not necessarily your original ECU). However, you can have them send you their reprogrammed ECU first, but you pay a core charge fee until you send them your stock ECU. I imagine that your stock ECU will be re-programmed by them and added into the pool.

I don't know if M2 just sends you the chips or not. I know that the old GForce ones required you to send your ECU to them first as they did the modifications and returned it back.

Here some more information about reprogramming the stock ECU:
