can only manage 8psi

Hey everyone.

I just returned from texas and picked up a few parts. Mainly fmic radiator and injectors. When I was downthere I removed the ACV. Upon returning I had a solid 12-10-12 boost pattern. The day after I got home I ran into a stange boost problem where I could only manage to squeeze out 8psi from my turbo. I'm running the spec II boost controller and Noticed the settings had been reset. So, I re programed the settings, and still could only manage 8psi. I then bypassed the boost contrller and hooked it back up to stock. Usually with this setup Id get 8psi and creep up to 12psi by redline. I still only managed 8psi.

I do have the vacuum line job done, and I've pulled the UIM twice now to check for kinks or broken hoses and couldnt find anything.

I'm thinking it might possibly be a leak that only surfaces when 8psi is reached, and keeps it there as the car no longer creeps up.

Im thinking maybe should simplify the rest of the vacuum lines and see if my problem fixes.

Since the ACV is already blocked off, do I need the other block off plates ? or are they not neccisary for the job.

Anyone have any idea what else possibly could be causing the problem?

Thanks

Steve

What is your idle and what vacuum are you pulling ?

Can you get positive 3psi boost under idle ?

if you have a 4 psi boost leak (from 12 to 8) you will hear it as a whoosh. no whoosh look elsewhere.

if crossover at 4500 is o k it is probly wastgate related as your turbos seem to be putting out.

i highly recommend you do the other blockoffs and hose simplification as it will make it easier to diagnose any further problems.

good luck,

I had a similar problem and what it turned out to be was the solenoid in my boost controller had gone bad. I normally ran 12psi but one day I couldn't hit anything more than 8psi. Try to throw in a manual valve into your lines temporarily to see if that's the case. I'd be very curious since your boost controller reset itself if that unit is actually now causing the problem.

Bricke sounds like he is headed in the "most probable" direction...

A good-sized boost leak somewhere is my guess. Double-check all the couplings to your intercooler and make sure they're tight.

See I thought that could be the problem too.. but If I reverted it to the stock setup, theoretically shouldnt I get the boost creep to 12ish psi like I always would ? It doesnt creep one bit which is why I thought it might be a leak that just opens at 8psi

bump, checked all the hoses on the rats nest, and I have yet to find any that are split. Would any failing solenoid cause this problem? Also, any reply to my above post?

I'm going to swap solenoids with my buddys profec spec II and see what happens, I'll post results soon.
