FL Can an O2 Error Mean the Cat is Shot?

Getting an Oxygen Sensor Error Code.

Since the Sensor is only about 2 years old, could it be something else --
say the Cat itself? Or is there a different Code for that?

Have some smells, but not really bad yet.

Check Engine Light is intermittent but always "Oxygen Sensor".

Thanks for any help

Nope, these cars only have one o2 sensor, essentially right after the turbo. So catalyst efficiency won't trigger a check engine unlike OBDII cars.

It is important to fix o2 issues because running rich all the time will eventually kill your catalyst by overheating it.

What is the "life" expectancy for a Cat?
Car has 162.000 miles now.

Getting ready to change the O2 sensor.

Thanks

My cat is cooked at 55,000 Kilometers but I track mine, also on my second O/2 sensor. It all depend on how the car was driven. O/2 sensors are cheap, if in doubt swap it out. IMHO

Theoretically, catalyst will last forever. In practice, they get coated with oil or overheat and fail.
