Can explain to me how to bypass the clutch switch?

I've been reading a little bit about this on the forum, but I dont quite understand how to do it....

How can I bypass the clutch switch so it dosent even have to be engaged for me to turn the car on in neutral.

Thanks

Ok, I'm not sure why you want to do this? It doesn't hurt anything.....

You just have to pull the wires off of the clutch switch in the clutch arm and tie them together.

But you have nothing to gain by doing this.

Well if you've seen my other recent threads, I've been having starting issues... So i'm 1 by 1 tryign to eliminate all my problems that may be a cluprit.

I am beginning to think that it is probably my ignition switch, is there any way I can jump the ignition switch, where is this damn ignition switch located anyways???

PROBLEM: I turn my key, and the starter does not engage, at all, no response. I can push start the car an it runs fine, so somthing isnt tellin the starter to kick in.

can anyone think of any negatives to doing this? the stock ECU likes to be aware of alot of things, i'd rather not have the car randomly dieing at stoplights. but at the same time i never park the car in gear so always pushing my clutch in is annoying, expecially when i want to start it while i am working on something. as it is i always have to get into the car completely to get the clutch in...

2 things. i am only talking about the starter interlock switch. all it does is interupt the start signal if it is open. second i think it is a nice safety feature and was suggesting it as a test. the clutch switch can cause some odd thing even though the book says a short or open will have no noticable effect

If I'm not mistaken, only the cars over here (USA) have the clutch interlock. It was a reguired safety feature. Shouldn't be too hard to bypass. I've been pushing the clutch in all my life so it's not that big of deal... Hope you get the starting problem worked out.

isnt there a relay that you can just unplug?

there is no after-affects in doing this, in-fact if you ever decided to install a remote autostart you need to bypass the clutch.

The reason I asked about the alarm is there is a starter kill relay in the drivers side kick panel. If the alarm is tripped, you may need to reset it to get the relay to connect the starter.

You would have to unhook the battery and depress the brake pedal for 15 seconds to disarm the alarm system. You then hook the battery back up.

Thats where I would start.

If that doesn't work, then check the engine fuse under the dash. Lastly would be the clutch switch.

Just my 2 cents.....

OBOY..... I would NOT reccomend a auto starter for a Manual car. I've seen a friend of mine use his dumb autostarter on his M3 and he hit a car infront and behind due to leaving the car in 1st gear like a D!CKHEAD!! Dont get a autostarter...

But back to the main question... Check your fuses and the stock alarm. That Could be causing this cause it happens in my moms car often.

Moms car: Infinit g20 with crappy stock anti theft system..

hmmmm

Where can I get a new ignition??? How often do these things go bad???? I already reset the alarm system by unhookin the battery and pressing the brake etc, it didnt do squat.

I dont know if i bypassed the clutch thing correctly cuz I still dont have a good understanding of what im routing to what.

I know its not the starter because I dont even hear the thing turning, somthing isnt activating it but all the wiring is good connecting to it, I checked it with a meter and it reads fine. Can I fix my ignition???

I just realized somthing... I know fuses go bad, but do relays go bad as well???

These are the big plastic things located near the fuses under the hood that I cant tell if they are blown or not.

How can i test a relay??? If my egi is bad will this keep the starter from engaging?? and hwere can i pick up one of these thigns?

No, the egi will not prevent the starter from engaging. You need the wiring diagram to test the relays, which pins are power and ground. Did you test your starter? You may be looking at the most unobvious reason for an otherwise obvious problem. Check your starter first, make sure your leads haven't corroded or fallen off, just take it to an autoparts store and they can test it for you. That's where I'd start before you disable crap you may need. BTW, do you have cruise control? If so, disabling the clutch switch will prevent your cruise from engaging.

about the auto starter, you have to be careful. On my lude right now when I got my alarm system hooked up they can do keyless start on autos, but they wont do it for manuals. They said it's easy to bypass the clutch. But if the person forgets to take it out of gear and leave it in first. When they go to start, it will do like manuals do when you take your foot off the clutch and sputter out and go forward a couple inches. but with the keyless start it will keep trying to start and keep sputtering out and slowly keep inching forward till it hits something. So if you are the type of manual driver that most people are and just leave it in gear when you park then it will probably be bad for ya.
