Emission Tips?

Well, I got my letter today for emissions I'm in Missouri by the way. I just need some tips on how to pass this thing. I have a dp, (I'll put back the Main Cat), catback, IC, PFS ecu, No fuel mods (stock injectors, stock fuel pump).

Air pump works fine. I'm going to change spark plugs and I already replaced o2 sensor. I'm going to probably put some alchohol like 6 gallons of fuel to 1 gallon of alch.

Any other tips?

Thanks

Amel

denatured alcohol - works great.
i ran my car down to around 1/8th of a tank, and dumped in a lot of alcohol (don't recall how much, i think i posted it, though) -anyway, after i was done, i just filled the tank up to dilute whatever was left.

Do you have the air pump? You definately need it to pass, and with it you should have no problem passing with your setup. If you do manage to fail emissions even with the air pump denatured alcohol can help alot! In my experience a 25% denatured mixture will reduce emissions about 50%.

How great does the alcohol really work? I saw in Ace hardware they sell it in lke quarts or something like that. So how many should I put in?

Yes, my air pump is there and as much as I know, it works fine.

When you say 25%, how much is that really like 2-3 quarts of it in like 5-6 gallons of fuel?

4 quarts per gallon. 4 quarts of Alcohol and 3 gallons of gas would be 25% alcohol, although gas by design has some ethanol in it...so...that's not exactly right.

Amel,

If you change the plugs and O2 and still fail, you will not be able to apply those costs for your $450 waiver.
Your emissions must improve to get the waiver, so by starting out with a new parts, you may not be able to improve your emissions readings.

Hopefully you will pass and won't need the waiver.

good luck

While your at the place waiting for him to come get your car, keep it running and put your foot on the gas pedal and idel at about 1500-2000 for a few minutes until he is ready for it. Also my car failed the first time do to the fuel cap. So if you have a old fuel cap, I would change it. Also I think I remember the guy that smoged mine told me that he would run the pass in 2nd gear for some reason. ??? Do to those things I passed my second time. Keep in mind that I'm in CA which has the most hardcore emission laws.

When I did mine I had about 6 gallons of gas left in the tank and dumped in 2 gallons of denatured alcohol (available at ACE Hardware for $10 per gallon). That resulted in 25% ACE denatured / 75% pump gas which is already some 10% or so ethanol. My emissions readings for HC and CO both dropped by over 50%. I dont remember for sure how much NOx dropped but I think it was more like 25%.

Yeah, We get couple of chances too. But I don't think it will pass without alcohol. I mean the car does run a little rich. I was thinking about puting the cat back and turning the profec off. That way it will only have 7 psi. Now I don't think it can run rich at that much Psi.

you can't pass emissions with a midpipe. you must have some type of cat in place. also, the air pump must be hooked up to the cat, and be pumping.

you can pass with the downpipe in place (in other words, you don't need the precat).

i don't know about other places, but in NC, they only bring the RPMs up to around 1500 or something.

cars should pass emissions with the air pump and cat in place. if not, then, as mentioned above, put denatured alcohol in your gas tank.

this will work!

damn, i feel sorry for yall. I live in florida, and there is no emission standards or nothing that we have to pass. at least not that I know of. No one I know has had to go down and do some test of their car. I guess we're just a lil lucky.
