Calling Blitz FMIC owners, what radiator you use? AC?

Hey guys -

Probably after Deal's Gap this year I'll be taking out my Apexi FMIC and going to a Blitz FMIC. I like how the AC condensor is located with the Blitz way better, and I also like the cleaner piping.

That said, questions I have -

- What radiator are you guys running? I'd LOVE to run a Koyo, but I'm worried that there won't be enough room. The radiator is VERY tight with my Apexi and I have a CSF all-aluminum radiator that's stock thickness.

- Anyone also running AC? How much room was there for the condensor with the radiator?

Also, how many FMIC guys are running with a smaller battery in the stock location? I'm running a Miata battery sideways on a modified stock tray, and I may end up working with Turbojeff to make a stainless version of this tray.

Thanks!

Dale

Afraid I can't be of much help to ya Stretch

My battery is in the rear hatch and I deep-six'ed my AC back in the Texas summer of 2002

But, I can tell ya to stick with a Fluidyne..... I've since changed many things on my setup, but when I had the R1 oil cooler hard lines, there was barely room with the Fluidyne and OEM fan shroud.

From your description it seems the Blitz leaves more room than the Apexi.

1. You'll definitely have space for the koyo, I use a big fluidyne aluminum radiator.

2. The Blitz is made to fit with a radiator and A/C, so there's no clearance issues. The radiator and condenser are repositioned a little higher and at a larger angle.

3. I use a 51r miata battery in the stock location with a modified stock battery tray, which is the exact same you're using I guess. The only thing is that the AST is "slightly" cramped, but no big deal.

There are a couple of annoying points. The A/C lines have to be bent a good amount and I was afraid to break them. But just being careful it turned out perfectly fine. And the same thing with the oil cooler lines, if you have dual oil coolers, you have to do a good bit of forcing to fit the radiator and fan brackets around them because you're basically pushing everything back slightly.

Here's a picture of my setup from the top, unfortunately I didn't take any pics while I was installing it, but if you want let me know and I'll get under the car and take some pics so you can see how everything's mounted.

You will have no problem with the Koyo, that is the only radiator we install and have used it countless times with the Blitz FMIC.

The kit comes with A/C install instructions and brackets, it can be done.

Also ran the PC680 battery for awhile, I am not a fan of the battery. If you buy the Blitz new it comes with tie downs and instuctions for a 51R battery.

You may want to relocate the battery to the bin.

Customer's car with Blitz/Koyo and A/C

ZeroG, the Blitz is made to fit with a stock radiator, aftermarket ones are not a given.

Chris, It looks like that Koyo is mounted much more vertically than my Fluidyne was. I'm sure that accounts for the difference.

Thanks for the input guys!

I do have an R2 with the dual oil coolers. I'd really like to run the Koyo over the Fluidyne if possible, I like the design of the Koyo a bit better.

Two of you stated that you're running a 51R battery - BTW, that's a Honda battery, the Miata battery is some other code and it's smaller than a 51R. I HATE relocated batteries so it's definitely staying under the hood.

The CSF radiator I currently have has worked great, it's stock thickness and I haven't had any cooling issues or anything with it. But, I would really like the Koyo, it's blingier and the design and mounting is a lot better than the CSF.

Any other input is appreciated!

Thanks,
Dale

I am using an Apexi FMIC and I modified it to fit the radiator in the factory location and still have its tilt. The condenser was on there until I notice a line was twisted from the owner that owned her before.

When you do any of those front mounts you will have to stand your rad up straight. The only issue I have notice with those guys is that the rad and the battery fight for space under the hood.

There's some more details about it on turborx7.com

His setup has a red top optima battery with what looks to be a stock radiator, but he doesn't have an AST. If you want to keep the AST, the biggest size battery you can fit would probably be the 51r, but since you mentioned you're suing a miata battery that's smaller, then you won't have any problems either way.

There's a very good chance I'm gonna be at DGRR this year, so if you're going to be there then you can pick the details of my setup in person.

I currently don't run an AST but will probably be going back to one with the new FMIC. Mainly because I got a good deal on a baller RE-Amemiya AST .

Thanks, ZeroG, I will DEFINITELY be at DGRR so I hope to see you there!
