C6 Corvette or 3 rotor or LS6 swap?
C6 Corvette or 3 rotor or LS6 swap?
Hello guys,
Here is the situation:
I have a 95 RX7 with 16000 original miles and all the goodies from Pettit Racing.
My car is as fast as a 03 Z06 with exhaust and chip (friend's car).
Here is my dilema:
Before I bought the RX7, I had an 03 Z06. Now, I miss the torque of the V8.
Since the new vette came out, I have been thinking about getting one but I would have to sell the fd.
This is what I came up with so far:
- I can sell the RX7 for 'maybe' $25000 and spend another $25000 and get the vette.
or
- I can keep the RX7 and spend $30000 and get a 3 rotor.
or
- I can keep the RX7 and do an LS6 swap for about $20000 (built motor)
Either way, I have to dump $20000 to $30000.
I do love my 7 and it is very rare, unlike the vette.
Here is a pic of the 7 http://a2zpcwiz.com/personal/RX7_1.jpg
Do you guys have any constructive input? power? reliability?

1. good luck getting $25K for your car.
2. if you get the vette you will get a warranty, plus 22.6 mpg.
3. the vette will probably have a higher resale than either the 3 rotor or the ls6 swap.
4. you can have and drive the vette now, not so for the other options.
5. the vette will be a complete engineered solution, not something that was "made to work".
hope this helps, I've struggled with this stuff too. However, I have narrowed it down to these two options-1 keep the rx7 as is, shut up be happy 2-sell the rx7 and get a vette. have you ridden in a c6? It's no joke.

That's a tough one. Why don't you sell the pristine FD w/ 16k on the odo. and buy a clean FD w/ a bad motor and do an LS1 swap...
I recently went for a ride in Gnrx7's FD/LS1 w/ 431rwhp & 380 rwtq! That thing is a monster! That way you get:
The timeless styling of the FD
The superb chassis geometry that delivers great handleing
Low curb weight 2800 +/- lbs
V8 stump pulling torque
I'm sure Mark won't mind me reposting his dyno & corner weighting results:

Dynoed 430rwhp/380rwtq on 91 octane. I guess the big cam I'm running is no
torque monster. The 1 7/8" headers I'm sure don't help either. I should've
gotten 1 3/4" primaries in hindsight. Good thing is that in 2nd I have
traction most of the time.
Corner Scaled it also:
49.6% front
50.4% rear
2825lbs (my rims/tires are 47lbs front 51lbs rear! Stock rims/tires are
40lbs.....
Nearly a full tank of gas.

the 7 looks clean as all get out. since you just mentioned pettit stuff does that mean you're on the stock turbos? maybe a single is the ticket for you. certainly cheaper than the other options. do you really have a problem with the car or just looking for something different? good luck whatever you do. there's a lot of people who would kill to be in your car situation.

Gorgeous car, tough call. If you want to do the ls6 conversion I would probably sell it or keep it, pick up a cheaper fd and do the swap. There are very few fd's left in that kind of condition, even I would have a tough time ripping it apart!
Thanks for the great advice so far guys. Like I said earlier, my car is as fast as a Z06 but If I bought the vette, I could add a procharger and easily have 540+ horsepower on stock motor. I feel the vette could be made very fast and reliable compared to the fd.

I'd go with the the new vette. You could also sell your car and pick up a nice roller for 6k (cheaper if you look hard), motor for 4k, and pay hinson 7k to swap it in. thats 17k plus whatever you spend on building up the motor.
I forgot to mention if you want to impress the kids on the board 20b is the way to go.

Sell the FD!! You won't get 25K, but you might get 20K.
Keep a 2k for mods and finance a new C6 or 04' Z06. They have 04's in La for 36-40 with low low miles. You could get financing in the 5%-6% range. A new C6 will be more and you can get financing in the sub 5% range.
Throw on a 150 shot on either one and you'll be trapping mid to high 120's. A C6 with a 150 shot by Carteck ran 11.1@127.
You will never get 1/2 of what you put in if you do a Ls6 or 3 rotor. Look at Red Rx7's car one of the baddest 3 rotor's around and it's not sold yet!! He's only asking 40K.

dont throw away 20k$ if you swap engines, what do you think your car will sell for with a ls1 in it? If you have the $$$ buy a c6,but if you mod it you have just voided a 3 yr 36 k warranty.Choose wisely young grasshopper.

yup, thats my plan for the next 3-5 years, to own a viper..
and i will
My advice. Sell the car and yes you will get 25k for it or damn close and buy another fd and do the ls1 swap and you will probably have close to enough to buy yet another fd and do the 3rotor swap considering the price of the vette. I have ridden in the new vette and it is absolutely amazing. However at 56k with all the goodies it didnt feel quit that good.
