Yep me too, but when I am 55, hehe, no I am kidding, I was really considering buying one myself. Maybe seeing how my investment are in the next few years. I believe the 1999 Viper were the last year to have forged internals, but correct me if I am wrong.
I am definitely looking into it, but I will research more when the time comes to buy one and see what the pros and cons of owning a Viper would be. I know for a fact it is a Dodge, and just being under the Dodge name makes me worry about the build quality. However, if the build quality suffers, I could just get on Ebay and get a shop manual and do all the work myself. I mean shouldnt be that hard, I mean we own an Rx7.
The car itself, is just pure muscle and very beautiful curves like the 7. I guess that is what attracts me to it. Plus, you already have a good foundation to build on for more power. So more power to you and get a Viper and shoot me a PM, maybe I will have to dive in also!!!

Oh by the way sorry to hijack the thread. I guess I was in the same boat you were, but no way considering the 3 rotor, not because of the design. But man the money your talking is crazy or at least for me it is.
I like the Z06 and that was the one I prefer, but it sucks because I also like the new C6 also. I guess to me the new C6 is like the new mustang. I mean always a continuation<---(I do not know if that is even a word) of the previous model. I mean there is always going to be something that is newer and flashier than the previous model. However, the Viper is different, I mean look at the old and new Viper. Doesnt seem to me a continuation of the previous model (technically it is, but). It still has a very good look to it, just doesnt looks mean. The new one is just too civilize to me. Doesnt look like a muscle car. Yeah I love the older style, all American Classic Muscle I guess.

straight line anyway, but you'll still get owned owned in the twisties.

Go with the C6 Z06. Although the RX-7 is better looking imo, the vette will be newer than your 7, more refined than your 7 and would probably smoke your 7.
The 20b is a bad option. Why would anyone want half again as many problem that two rotors bring?

Also, a lot of the Viper Club forum members run a lot of SCCA competitively. Not just some guy out there pedaling around.
I mean with the amount of hp and tq you get, you can always sarcific some weight. And the 315 rear tires help a whole lot. The viper is not your typical Stang, Camaro, or Firebird. I mean they race competitively, like the Corvette.

all the autox's i've seen vipers at, they've got their asses handed to them by the vettes and miatas....how embarrasing is it to drive a monster like that and see a beat down, ripped up top 90-someodd miata school you.
i like vipers, don't get me wrong, they're just not all that nimble.

The new Z06 or maybe Z07 is going to be a awesome car. Man I cant wait to see it and race one too. I just hope it isnt going to get over saturated with Z06 like it is here. But it probably will, looks like everybody is got money now.

I totally agree, but when you have SCCA track built by Miata guys, nothing is going to take them. Plus it seems like the guys I do see have Vipers, think they are Billy Bad Azz and think they can take on anything. So you have to forgive guys like that thinking they can buy a awesome sport cars to balance with their inexperience driving. I am sure if you get a good driver in a Viper, they can hold their own. I mean if you actually go with to a real road course and you have a good driver in a Viper, they will eat up some Miatas and Corvettes. Now the Z06 is a awesome car, good balance of weight and power. Only bad thing is, looks almost identical to a regular Corvette. That would be the main reason that would turn my decision away from a Z06. But if I found one for the right price, who knows. Keep my 7 and have a Z06 for a daily, not bad.

I recently went for a ride in Gnrx7's FD/LS1 w/ 431rwhp & 380 rwtq! That thing is a monster! That way you get:
The timeless styling of the FD
The superb chassis geometry that delivers great handleing
Low curb weight 2800 +/- lbs
V8 stump pulling torque

but i still contribute to the house with some bills (oil, water, pse&g)..so right now im just saving for that viper and since im getting a bike, mods are minimal on the FD..

Not that it matters or anything. I would suggest not getting a bike or at least not to keep for long terms. I bought a 2003 R6 last summer and road it for a few months and got rid of it before it depreciated any or messed up. Also, everybody goes down, if you are a good rider. Good riders take it to the limit and will eventually go down. I did not want to take that chance and the chance of getting hurt. So I sold it before I dropped the bike. After a few weeks of owning the bike, I took the bike to the limit or at least to my abilities. I like taking sharp turns and leaning the bike out to a point where I could skin my knees. To be a good rider, you seem to push yourself harder and harder. You feel overwhelm to push yourself and the bike harder. Sometimes I did get over confidence and took some corner at a very fast pace and knew there was probably no chance to lean the bike that hard. I was very fortunate to run off into the side of the road that had some room to spare, instead into a tree, ditch, or off the hill.
The confidence you get when you lean the bike out is like no other feeling, better than taking a corner crazy fast in your 7. But I had to get rid of bike, because I knew my time would have come. I consider myself to progress really fast with the bike. However, remember when you get your bike, pace yourself. When you ride with good riders, be the last rider and take your time. That is what I did, I rode with guys that rode for a lot of years. I actually like to go alone and ride by myself and see how much I have improved, without any pressure from anyone or from traffic. Another thing, it is not your riding capabilities that cause you to get into trouble, but is often other cars dont see you and move into your lane. Too much dirt, small pebbles, debris, and animals could mess your up too on the road. Most of the time you get into accidence is from the environment around you and not you. Hehe, if you own a bike previously, than you dont have to worry about it, because you know what I am talking about.
Anyway, it was a good experience while it lasted, I enjoyed riding it everyday and it was great. After a while though, it will get to you. Cant ride in the rain, cant really have a passenger (if you know what I mean), hard to ride in the cold, hot weather, and etc.
Man talking about it makes me want to get a GSXR1000, nah, I better save my money for the 7.

yeah you make alot of sense..i actually rode before (illegally lol) for a while and i guess it was prob that reason why i didnt like to take risks and go fast and whatnot..i know my limits, im not that type of person that gets intimidated by other people when they pass me and i just have to pass them..even with the FD, sometimes i chill with slower cars and im always the one in the back or second to the back, some of my friends even think they're stock cars are faster than mine LOL
but you're right though, you can be the best rider and all it takes is just that one idiot who was talking on the phone and cut you off and that could be your life..but hey, if its my time, it was my time to go..god forbid i had to go out on a bike accident, thinking about all this would make me paranoid about everything else in life, not only riding motorcycles..
in life, there are risks, with each second you live..you can eat heathly and do everything right, then have that accident of slip and fall down the stairs and die..if its your time, its your time, regardless of what you're doing..

Thank you everyone for your advice.
Here's what I have taken out of it and agree:
- 3 rotor would be a waste of money and more headaches
- ls1 swap should only be done to a high mileage car
- the thing about the vette is that it is so common
I didn't think the viper was in my price range but I found out that it is.
Actually, I can get this 2000 GTS with less than 11000 miles for around $55000.
