A/C compressor???

Last week on my way to school i got rear-ended by a junior girl that was not paying attention. She didnt do any damage to my bumper but it did hit hard and busted out my lights that shine on my plate. On the same after noon i was dring at about 55 with the A/C on and then my car goes insane. It startes making scratching noices and all the lights are flashing on and off and then the car just dies on my. So when the tow truck guys gets there ( he owned an RX7 years ago? he tells me that it is the a/c compressor hitting something. he showed me that something was making sparks and that it was fine to drive as long as i dont use the A/C. Well it has been about a week now and it is driving fine and i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and how much it would cost to buy and new one. And is it hard to install your self. oh and one mone thing, could the accident have anything to do with it. The tow guy said that it didnt. The insurance man is comming by in a few days and i dont think that he is going to let me get that done for free, so i just wanted to know again how much it costs and how hard to install. Kinda a noob so any help would be great thanks

I just got a brand new one from malloy. It was around $300 or so. You also need to make sure if your system is a mana or denso system as the fittings are different.

The install is super easy. Four 12mm bolts, two 12mm bolts that hold the two lines, and the wire clip (at least on the Mana one). You just need to get two new O rings and some mineral oil to fill the new compressor. I have the old one that I took out of my car. It's kinda "tired" but would still work. If you want it pm me.

here are some pics of the ac compressor

about the car making noises, when you turn on your ac can you see the ac clutch engage?

the air intake??? the air intake is on the drivers side of the car. The AC compressor is on the drivers side of the car underneath the powersteering pump.

it definitely is easier to remove the compressor if you remove the intercooler and exit pipe...maybe that's what he means??

about the mana versus denso thing....I'm still not entirely sure...do a search and try to figure it out the best that you can...my dryer was "black" which some suggests that its a Mana system...my parts that I ended up ordering matched and were all Mana.

The "silver" dryers are Denso according to older threads.

Place a mirror behind the current compressor and use a flash light to see what it says on the back of your compressor.....it should tell you which one it is. From what I remember when I had to replace mine.....there is a big difference in price between the Mana and Denso when buying from Mazda. The Denso is much more expensive! I got a remanufactured Denso from:

Pace Compressor
3816 Sligh Ave. Tampa, Fl 33614
813-888-7991

It has been working great for over 1.5years.

the mirror trick won't help you...as you can see from these pics...my MANA says "denso on the back"
