Buying first rx7, what to look for

Hi,

I've been thinking of picking up a 93+ RX-7. It's been about 7 years since I've had a sports car, and these seem... interesting...

What should I look for, or watch out for when shopping for one? My intentions are to get a fairly decent car, even stock, and drive it for a while. Once I'm bored with it then I'll tear it apart, but I want something that's going to be enjoyable without major rebuilding for some time.

So, what are some of the common problems, signs of abuse, etc??

Thanks,

Use the search button but most importantly look up top for a sticky for new fd owners it has 2 website telling you exactly what you are asking.

This gets asked every day, every week, every month, all year long! Before you get flamed, Here's the "newbie sticky" you missed on the top of the page:

if it starts, your 1/2 way there in anycase, just look for the normal things that you would for any other car, just remember to have about 5-7k tucked away just incase the turbos and/or engine go to crap. other then that, happy hunting

Ha! Maybe I should look for another model

Hopefully, I can spend 5-7K upfront and get something that's going to run for a bit, but I guess any older used car is a crap shoot.

You are fooling yourself if you think you can get out with only 5-7K total. You'll be okay if you have that for mods/reliability post purchase. If that is your total budget, then you had better not be looking at 3rd gens.

If you want a nice car. Look for something stock, with fairly low miles. Figure on spending AT LEAST $17K.

Most importantly, don't buy it from anyone on this forum
