Bulb Number for Upgrading headlight Bulbs?

Need the bulb number to upgrade the stock RX-7 headlight bulbs to something a bit brighter.

Usually has a number like 9004, 9005, etc.

Just need to know which one so I can pickup a set.

Also need them for the turn signals too =)

Thanks

If you want Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, I think the # is 9003. I installed a set recently , and it is a nice improvement. The high beams are awesome.

Thanks you guys for reminding me to get new bulbs! I knew something was on the back of my mind. Ya silvania silverstars are the ****. I would get the H4's because I think they might be a little bit brighter. But nothing to test this theory. Your local autozone, wal-mart should have them. Imma do this tomorrow.

I bought the Sylvania Silverstars 9003ST's and they are just great. Far brighter than stock with greater coverage as well. I got them at Autozone for a little less than $49.00.

Godd luck.

I have the Sylvania Silverstars in my Millenia and PIAA's in the RX-7. Personally, I recommend the PIAA's. They are a little more expensive, but they are a lot better in my opinion.

You can get matching H3's for the PIAA or Sylvania bulbs. Here is the link to the Sylvania website (performance lighting section - middle of page)

If you opt for the PIAA's, Autobarn has good prices on those.

If you would like to read some FACTS on light bulbs check out

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/home.html

You will see that PIAA & all the others that quote their 55/60 watt bulb put out 100/110 watts are complete B.S. & a waste of money. Good marketing, bad bulbs.

Plus, how blue colored bulbs may look brighter, but it's an optical allusion brought on by our eyes & are in fact DARKER.

The Sylvania Silverstars are a good choice, but even those are over driven to meet the legal max tolerance. Shorter life is the result.

So, basically what you're saying is that there's really no point in changing your stock bulbs. And you really shouldn't be driving at night because all of the "recommended bulbs" are in fact no better than the OEM bulbs, which suck. Fact is, it's a matter of personal preference. Anything can be analyzed until fault is found, but if everyone did this the economy would collapse because everyone would be so confused, that they wouldn't know what to buy and in turn, buy nothing at all. Get the bulbs that YOU want. If you don't like them, try something else, and keep trying until you find one that has the least amount of compromises to meet your needs and wants.

Joe

Fog lights are H3. If I'm not mistaken, the front combination lights (turn signals) are either 1156 or 1157 on the outside and the inside bulb is a 194

Did you even read any of the tech articles in the web site?

My point was there is a lot of marketing hype by PIAA & other bulb manufactures & not to get caught up in it. That's all.

An educated consumer is a wise consumer. I don't want to be a ginie pig & "try" out 3-4 sets of bulbs thinking they are better than the last set.

Obviously you can put higher wattage bulbs (with a relay) or extra driving lights. The end result would be fantastic night visibility. I just don't want to be the poor smuck in the on coming lane blinded by your lights.

You know why most people complain about RX-7 headlights?

Because they heard from others or read on the internet that they suck. My Wife's 02 Ford headlights are no better, but you don't hear complaints about those.

IM talking from experience, I bought into all the hype. I tried two different sets of PIAA bulbs. I even have a set of E Code headlamps lens.

The E Code lens have a unique beam pattern that sweep up on the right side to highlight signs & a more dramatic cutoff along the top. Plus they are glass , not plastic, so they don't yellow or fog up over time.

If you read further, you see that the Osram SilverStar are the bulb of choice. The Sylvania Silverstars are actually overdriven to produce the same intensity of light & will have a shorter life

End result?

The Sylvania Silverstars are readily available here & are cost effective.

I did read the article. If you notice in my previous post, I said it was, in the end, a matter of personal preference. I never bought into the hype that the RX-7's lights suck. They are old technology, that's all. There are a lot of cars with H.I.D. lights that I absolutely hate to meet in oncoming traffic, because of the fact that there is so much glare from them, that you just about have to shut your eyes while passing to keep from seeing spots for the following hour.

Take my 95 Millenia......when I bought it, it had factory bulbs in it. There was a "black hole" in the forground of the light pattern, so I replaced the lights with the Sylvania Silverstar lights. While it did improve the clarity of objects that were being lit (or at least the illusion, thereof), it did not fill the "black hole" that was apparent in the foreground. Shortly thereafter, I replaced my fog light bulbs because they were not working when I bought the car. When I did this and the fog lights started working again, the "black hole" was suddenly gone and there was light in that area. All because of fog lights. The point I'm trying to make is that with anything automotive, you are limited to what is available for the particular application. And in the case of the RX-7, my preference is the PIAA lights over the Sylvanias. While there may be an insignificant amount of difference to some, that is my preference as I stated in my first post.
