brake master leaking

looks like I'm leaking fluid right around the seal between the reserve and the master.
Does anyone know the part number for that seal or how to change it? it's doing a number on the engine bay paint.

You need to stop driving it, buy a rebuilt master cylinder from Advance/auto zone and replace it. Repair the damaged paint while it is off or rust will take over.

replace a whole master because the reservoir is leaking where it meets the body of the master?

Philip,

It's been years since I replaced my MC, but there should be an o-ring at the bottom or the reservoir for the seal to the MC. Pull the MC out of the car, drain it and then pull off the reservoir. If you can get the o-ring out, just take it to your local NAPA or Autozone and see if they can match up a replacement.

Make sure to bench bleed it before you put it back on the car.

Age of the car, but even the new ones don't come with a new reserve.

Sure they do, according to the parts diagram. I can confirm it when mine arrives this week.

I would replace the master cylinder just because of its age.

some do, some don't

Long as it's working I'm going to leave it alone, unless I can't find the seals.

It's all in the parts diagrams. If you can't find it, too bad.

My replacement MC did not come with a new reservoir, just for reference. However, I believe a new reservoir can be ordered without a problem if needed.

You remove the MC from the car. Then remove YOUR existing reservoir and put it on the rebuilt one. IF your MC is leaking, changes are that it is worn out and needs rebored. So, don't take my word for it, just keep on driving it, watch your brake fluid light and quit complaining.

That's all I'll say about this thread !

How many times do I have to say it's leaking from where the reservoir and the MC join?

Well I got my reman MC today and there is no reservoir. It does come with the rubber bushings that connect the MC to the reservoir.

All along you're completely able to follow the parts diagrams I provided to get a part number for that exact bushing.

I guess you can lead a horse to water,...
