Need info on stock airbox, for SMIC install.

Hi everyone, I've spent the last couple of days slowly but carefully installing my recently acquired Greddy SMIC.

The SMIC is now in including my own design ducting at the bottom which I will complete once the indction box is in.

The problem I'm having is that due to the extra width of the SMIC I won't be able to get the induction box in without cutting off the pipe that comes out of the right side of the box.

Can anyone advise me what this is for and if there's anyway it can be bypassed without any major issues arising.

First pic shows the pipe coming out on the right
Second pic shows where it goes inside, looks like a smaller box, not sure whats inside.
Third pic shows the pipe coming from the engine which connects to the other end of the air box.

I don't want to install cone filters as I plan to carry out the air box mod and use some ducting directed to an opening in the bottom of the box.

TIA

Thanks for that Mahjik, appreciate it.

As I am still using the stock airbox I think the best option for me will be to;

1. Keep the pipe shown in the 3rd pic connected to the air box.

2. Eliminate the pipe coming out of the right side of the box and use some foam to prevent any debris getting in from the hole that is left.

3. Keep the the air pump connected to the air box as standard.

Does this sound ok or do you see potential problems with it.

Cheers
