Bov help

ok so i put in a hks ssqv about a few months back my setup is pretty much stock. ic piping and all. except for the intakes those are aftermarket as well as all of the exhaust. ok for some reason my bov should be louder. my boy has a single gt35 runnin 18psi and i understand his would be way louder cause of his setup, but my other friend just did a turbo setup on his sentra runnin 8psi and its way hell louder than mine. i noticed that there is another diverter valve on the back side of the y pipe. could that be the case. also upgrading the stock ic piping and intercooler it self along with relocating the bov onto the cold side of the setup, would that help at all? the bov came with a kit for the stock twins and im not to fond of how close it is to the turbos. it has the mercedes lookin insert it came with from the factory too. any ideas or suggestions would be great help.

Could have to do with hood material, thickness, and insulation. Comparing my HKS ssqv to that on my friend's FD hers isn't even 1/4th the volume of mine. She has the stock hood with insulation, I have a Knightsport replica. It's absolutely deafening right below one of the vents.

Where have you got the preload spring adjusted too? Most seem to run it screwed all the way in. You've replaced the valve closer to the front of the car right, not the other on the y-pipe?

Agreed on the position of it too, place it close to the top of the bonnet if possible with nothing obstructing it. If you've got aftermarket intakes especially, it should just plumb straight into the standard position where the originaly valve was.

Failing all that, strip the BOV down and check for leaks! And check for leaks where it's fitted!

do they all have ab SSQV? some BOV's are louder than others anyway.

what is the reason you want you'r BOV to be loud anyway? its not going to scare anybody off.... if anything it will attract, and sometimes it just flat out sounds annoying.

to be quite honest about the ssqv i thought there was not suppose to be any adjusting correct me if i am wrong. and the way the other hks ssqv sound differs alot from my own even with the same insert in it. and also the instructions that came from hks said to use the nipple closets to the front of the car on the y pipe. should i eliminate that other diverter valve on the back side of it too?

No, leave the other one alone. Thats fine and should stay there... Something to do with the change over to secondary turbo... Well all cars will make a slightly different sound, but all will give that typical HKS SSQV whistle. Are you getting the high pitched whistle sound?! The inserts as far as I've heard don't make THAT much of a difference... personally I've only had the purple ones...

And yes, as far as I know too they're meant to be set up as they come if it's a specific kit, but just fiddle with it a bit, remembering where it was to start with. see if it makes a difference to your problem. It will make a difference I can tell you that much! I know from experience on mine that with the screw all the way out if didn't want to make the whistling sound AT ALL!

It should replace the front valve... sounds like you've got it in the right place. Where have you got your vacuum going?

You should be able to see where I had mine in the photo, minus all the hoses of course! but the SSQV is fully connected up as it should be

Riiight... I'm not familiar with the SSQV II, so maybe it doesn't have a screw then...! If it did, you'd see it... A black 10mm screw with a locknut on it, on the back of the valve. You wouldn't need to undo anything to see it.

Without having seen the car, or heard the noise it's making, I've run out of idea now I'm affraid! If you've got the correct boost pattern then it should be as loud as it's going to be! Unless they shipped out one for an FC acidentally!!

so i finally decided to pull off that other diverter valve in the back of the y pipe. turns out that hose going into it was all cracked and swivled around sise to side. so i unplugged the vacuum line and pluged the hole and clamped it and what do u know, it gave up a louder chirp and turns out i was leaking some boost. the car runs way better now. its crazy over just a small thing like that u lose tremendous amounts of power.
