Bought Rx7- Wondering about the racing hood that came with it. Water?

I just purchased a 1994 rx7. It is in good shape and i have started tuning it but i am questionable about the hood i purchased it with. The hood has large open air vents which are great for cooling down the engine and the turbos but if it rains water goes right through the hood. Can i not drive the car in the rain with the hood and wont rain cause rust in the engine?

You may be able to buy rain guards for that specific hood, or you may have to fabricate your own. One of the main reasons I kept the factory hood when I had my FD repainted

I have a scoot hood w/lots of vents and I've got caught in a few downpours. The car drove fine. I guess as long as you don't drive through a thunderstorm you should most probably be fine.

Water drainage from the hood won't hurt the engine at all. I've pressurewashed many an rx7 engine bay with the engine running. None of the electronics are overly sensitive, and most of the parts on the engine are aluminum and don't rust anyway. Most important connectors are weatherproof plugs.

Ive had cars run a bit odd after pressure washing, until they dried off, well *A* car...and it was a ford...so never mind :P

The only thing I could see being a problem is if your air filters are uncovered, as oposed to being in an airbox...

I dont think that you could ingest enough water just from rain falling on your filters to hydrolock it. Ive never heard of anyone hyrolocking a rotary, actually. I mean, a way to clean carbon outta the motor is to let it ingest water. I woulndt want to do that on a piston motor.
