First of im not new to car forum world so i know the first response im gonna get is "USE SEARCH"

I bought a 93 rx7 with 110k miles with a rebuilt engine. Im trying to figure our what oil weight i should use i used search and what i mostly found was the synthetic vs. mineral oil debate. I dont want that i want to know what weight i should use i saw a variety of weights from 10/30 5/30 and 15/50. I used Mobil 1 15/50 up until they changed the formula in my other cars now i use castrol syntec 20/50 in them what does the rx7 use?

then the brake specs what are they i couldnt find that for the life of me here. people just debate using bbk's and all i want to know is are the calipers 2 or 4 pistons up front on stock rx7's ?

you live in Va... same here... i run 20w50 Dino oil... Castrol


Some people will argue on what is best. But like i said i run 20w50 and have had no ill side effects. Oil pres is always nice and high. And i still have 8's for compression with 79K miles on the clock.

 

You can find the factory manual online. 10W-30 is the specified oil.
I don't know if all 7's have four pistons up front. I think they do. I know my 93 R1 does.

 

I am in MD and run Castrol GTX 20w50 as well

 

10w30 synthetic. I changed to synthetic when I got the new engine. If your engine has been using dino then don't change that.

 

I use 20W 50 in the summer, and 10W 30 during the winter

 

i use 15w50 - in rockville!

 

I use 10W30 mobil 1, winter or summer, everyone has they're opinions and choice, so you will end up using the oil of your choice to.

All FD's have identical brakes (unless modified), wether is a R1, R2, Base or Touring package...

As long as you stick to the schedule for oil changes, there's really no way to make a mistake. (Except maybe to post how you did it to the forum!)

10w30 year round, but its as dgeesaman says, gotta worry about doing it regularly more than anything.

And if you want to save future people headaches, put what your asking in the title of your topic that way if someone else actually does search they can jump right on your information.

WV and i run valvoline 20w50 in the summer and castrol 10w30 in the winter.

 

Yeah, after writing that there is one mistake to make in choosing oil: using an oil that's too thin, like the 0w-40 stuff that some newer cars and european makes suggest. 10w-30 is as low as anyone needs to go, really.
