Bose question.

How in the hell do I just replace the Bose head unit? I'm completely fine with the fact that the sub in the back isnt going to work anymore, but is there any way I can retain the factory speakers in the door and dash with a new head unit?

You are mister links, thank you very much.

you do not have to replace any speakers at all...and the subs will work. i know because mine work. you need the schosche adapter from crutchfield and follow the directions.

I've got one, thanks anyway.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5XDWRHj...sp?i=142C4MA02 - Is this the adapter you were speaking of?

I also put in the head unit that I purchased and Crutchfield said it does not fit (Pioneer DEH - P2900mp), I assume they are correct in stating it does not fit and I need to get a different head unit?

That's the one you need to use an aftermarket high wattage amp with the bose system (doesn't prevent it but will help keep you from over powering the bose speakers if setup correctly) you have to make sure you use one of the aux power wires to turn the amps on when the head unit powers on.Most modern head units will have one for the antenna and one to turn on a remote amp. If the unit is a double din it will fit if you remove the center separator, if it's a standard single din it will fit in either slot though the upper is better if you don't want too much trouble with removing a cd.

I dont plan on using a high wattage amp, just the one built in the head unit, is there a different one I should be using?

I just replaced my bose HU with a Dual xhd6425 & scosche oex4 adapter. crotchfield says it won't fit, but if you drill out 2 spotwelds you can remove a little tab and it will. I couldn't find anything with nearly the features for the $. I think it was $129 at best buy. Worth it just to get room for guages in the upper din spot, but all the oem bose speakers still work great.

So when they say it wont fit, its a matter of physical space or conflicting electronics?

Because the head unit I have definitely fits in the space I have.

Looks like i'll be grabbing that adapter.

space constraint. if you remove the tab with the support holes in it by drilling out the 2 spot welds I mentioned it fits fine. very easy to do, replaceable and not a hack.
