Glad to hear that. I just had one installed in my midpipe for a single turbo setup. Need it to be as quiet as possible. I'll probably combine that with a RB cat-back.

I've got an XR-1 Race muffler sitting around for that purpose when I get around to it. Glad to hear that it was a good change on your car. I am excited to get mine installed now.

Which XR-1 did you get? Race, Sportsman, etc. XR-1 is a whole line of mufflers.

Also, I read a report in Mustangs and Fast Fords or something like that where the Borlas did very well, and their newest ProXS muffler had even better flow and was quieter than the XR-1. It is hard to say if the noise results would be that same for the rotary, but it might be worth a look. They don't have center/center 3" mufflers, but they do have center/offset which still seems like it would work for us. I don't know how much they cost in comparison to the XR-1 stuff.

glad to hear it! if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the xr-1 muffler itself and for the labor to have it fitted to the midpipe ends?

i am looking into going full non-seq and large-ported in the near future, and the full exhaust with apex n1 can isnt going to cut it...

i have one too in my midpipe. The difference in noise reduction is incredible. Before my N1 single with a straight pipe was unbearably loud, now it has quieted down a lot. plus it also serves as a "hi flow catalyc converter" in case a cop looks under my car
no $2000 cali fine

is there room to do that without cutting up the firewall? i think that would be awesome, as long as the muffler and welds dont burn up from the heat.

Couldn't two Borlas be fitted onto one midpipe?

Tried...and failed. One borla is PERFECT. If you could find a circular with 3" that's smaller than 14", it would be possible to weld one into the catback piping as well. This is what I will be trying next.

How much did the xr-1 cost you? and how much did you have to pay to get it put in the MP?

thanks

if I rember right my xr1 cost me $150ish I dun remember. its been sittin in ym garage for months while I'm waiting for my car to get outta the shop =(.

Getting it into the MP should be pretty cheap, maybe $30-$50. The problems is finding a place that will do it for you. Alot of exhaust shops won't touch a car that doesn't have cats, unless they are putting a cat on.

this option is less hassle and probably cost less than buying everything seperately and paying to weld it on.

250 can get you a full stainless steel piping and muffler. 3" flow with a magnoflow straight through muffler welded on.

quieter than the stock cat.. they make pettit's exhausts also.. perfect fit.

Yeah, but how does Magnaflow compare to Borla in the noise suppression department?

That looks like the exact same one on rx7store.net for $235

What type of muffler is on the one at rx7store.net?

QBall you had the Mgnaflow MP, do you have any idea how it sounds compared to the Borla MP?

Magnaflow makes a high flow Cat' (not specifically for RX-7), why didn't they use that one?

Borla does make a 12" XR1 #40943
(Click Here) and this one (Click Here) 16" length for 4" piping like HKS & Border. But I like the round ones though 15" length for 3" piping(Click Here)

Whoops, almost forgot. Here is JSpecRacer7's home welded Borla MP

Since the oval one is strait through and not chambered, can't see how it offers more sound suppression but maybe less. Unless you are drag racing, it's very unlikey a cop will look underneath. They could give you a fix-it tick' for not have a heat shield if they wanted. From top to bottom it's 4.5" and the round one is 5" diameter(see below)

i'm running the XR-1 race (16 inch) as well. paid $161 from summit racing. Paid $10 to have it welded at the muffler shop. love it - the power and the sound. BUT, i hate the smell of the fumes.

Does the fumes go into the cabin or is it when you're outside the car that you can't stand it?

well, if your at a light sitting still, with the pax window down, you can smell it. put the pax window up, then you're cool. when i park in the garage, if the car sits for more than just a bit, then it starts to fill the garage (this is with the tailpipe blowing out the garage door, too!).

also, don't forget to use something like 409 to wash the right side of the bumper, cause you will get yellow speckled fuel stains! obviously, when using something 409 on paint, be sure to wash it off with soap and water!
