boost problems and it sounds weird too
I've been battling a lazy turbo switchover as well as a 9-5-9 pattern in a high gear (or a 5-5-5 in first). I checked around and under the UIM and really found nothing. Upon driving it again I noticed a sound that I don't think I've heard before:
The boost seems to be more violent sounding. It sounds much like a TV on white noise static mimiced by a person trying to make the noise with their mouth. It also could be described as turbulent wind through a plastic pipe. Is this normal sound or could this be related to my problems?

I had the problem with the 1st FD. I looked, and tested valves, etc, before finally finding it was the plastic hose that connected to the stock IC. It was a very small crack, but enough to leak tons of air.

Take the couplers off and look at it in the light especially the turbo/y pipe coupler. I had boost problems for almost a year and that was the culprit.

what "hose" exactly ? is it the one that routes down to the Y pipe /turbos or the one that goes into the actual engine ? that had a small crack
