boost kicks in late!!

hey guys, i have a 94 twin turbo rx7, its stock beside a 3 inch exhasut (looking for intake, out of $$) but anyways, i need some help. i broke my turbos about a year ago. i took it to MZM in Austin but it was a big bill. so i bought used turbos and installed them. they work good but my boost kicks in late. i press the pedal down and it take awhile for the turbos to kick in (some kind of hesitation). my friend said he asked around and someone said it might be a value, but my friend forgot what valve it was that they were talking about. anyone know??? or any idea what it could be?? also when i press the gas, its hesitating after 3000 rpm. another thread says it might be the o2 sensor. do you guys think that might be it? i dont have a job, full time student and i dont want to buy anything i dont have too. thanks guys

Well, that hesitation around 3k is just how the stock ECU can be sometimes. Look up "3K hesitation" and you'll find tons of threads on how people "though" they solved or alleviated the problem. For the most part, people usually fix it by going to a standalone ECU.

But, if you mean it builds boost up slowly, then it might be the turbo control valve that might need to be adjusted.

My mistake, I meant the little gate that the actuator controls. If you look at a diagram of the turbos, you'll see it. Basically, you need to adjust it so that the gate isn't partially open so that it doesn't leak any exhaust to the secondary before it's supposed to.

Or the turbo precontrol leaking off all primary boost before it goes to wastegate control.

what does your boost curve look like? what mods do you have on your car? your not really giving very much info and its very hard to even figure out where to begin. you might wanna try a ball and spring type boost controller (it only cost 15 bucks so it wont bankrupt you like an eletronic one will and the ball will hold back the wastegate a bit longer). in anycase, you might wanna also pull your turbos off and check for cracks in your wastegate. what kinda exhaust do you got, perhaps your cats are clogged?

Yes, all should be completely closed when at "rest."

Crap, sorry again -- I had a brain fart. It's the turbo pre-control actuator rod that needs to be adjusted.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/how-should-i-adjust-turbo-precontrol-actuator-rod-365143/

It can be a huge pain in the *** if the rod is seized -- in that case, you will need to take your actuator off. That itself is a pain in the ***, as you have to remove a crapload of stuff just to get to the two 13mm bolts that hold it down. Also, be careful not to lose your c-clip when you are taking it off.
