boost gauge mounting point question...

what looks more stock, mounting the boost gauge on the a-pillar or the steering column. I know I pretty much need a boost gauge, but I want it to stand out as little as possible. as I will not need to look at this on a daily basis, is a glove box mount doable? is that even smart? what do you all think?

Steering column looks stock if it is done right and with the right boost gauge/lighting. On the A-pillar it would stand out a lot more and does not look stock, how many cars have you seen with A-pillar gauge from the factory? The glove box is doable but what is the point.. a boost gauge is something you would want right in front of you like the tach to monitor. I have my boost gauge on the column in the Pettit pod, you don't even notice it is there unless you are in the car.

Glovebox is doable but not really that effective. You might want to check out this and possibly get a water temp gauge too since this is an important item.

Column pod with the Autometer street series. Black face, red needle, chrome bezel, and stock lighting. Everyone thinks it came with the car.

Don't go glove box, it's so impractical to read. I have the steering column set up myself. I'm using an RE Amemiya pod with a Greddy 52mm electronic guage. The gauge is a little long, so I used some black electrical tape to cover the exposed silver body. My vote for most stock looking goes to that, since a-pillar mounts can be easily seen from the outside or as one drives past.

ttpowered - that looks very cool, but a little to obtrusive - for my tastes anyway.... I just want the car to look as stock as possible, from the inside & out. I guess the duel a-piller mount is probably the way to go...

Is there a triple pillar mount?
I count 4 guages that I would like to have. 2 on the pillar and 1 on the column would mean finding a place for one more

Any one got one of the steering column mounts (from pettit). I would love to borrow it to make a mold out of. I would give you a free carbon fiber version for your troubles. I can also cover the lower peice with carbon to make it look more complete.

Why not use the 3-gauge, single din panel from Saab or Omori? That might not be the best location for the boost gauge, but for other gauges would be great.

phatmonky, yes there is a triple a-pillar out there somewhere.

mkoch1, let me make a recommendation if you plan on copying the Pettit pod. Make the mod from the INSIDE, not the outside. Theirs is already a little too big from copying the outside of the RE pod. If you make the mold from the inside, yours should fit just right.

Don't get a triple pillar pod...first off it'll look horrible, like some circus sideshow, and secondly because you can't possibly need to be watching that many gauges all at once. Dual is reasonable since you could have boost and EGT/A-F in there, but what else could you possibly put in there that would make a difference? Most other gauges are simply general diagnostic (like water temp, oil temp, pressure gauges, etc.), and dont' react quickly enough to need them on the pillar in your face all the time. If you're going to go w/ more than two gauges at all, I'd say go with either one or two on the pillar, and the rest under your stereo w/ the Saab DIN panel. Looks smooth, isn't obtrusive, and still gets the job done.

Get the Autometer dual gauge pod and autometer phantom boost and air/fuel gauges. Looks pimp tight!

Don't bother with the a/f ratio gauge. You might as well invest in some tea leaves. They'll be more accurate. Boost, water temp, egt, fuel pressure and oil temp. Two in the a-pillar, one on the column, two where the center channel goes. Everything you'll need.
