Boost gauge location options

Hi All:

I know there's tons of info about this in the archives and I've read most of it. I want to do a simple and clean boost gauge install, but I have a couple of questions.

1) Has anyone here done a nice clean install with a single a-pillar style mount? If so, which pillar pod did you use? (Autometer, Pettit, PFS, etc)? I'm wonderingi if they are all the same part with different names on them. I've used a-pillar pods before (on other cars) and I've never been a big fan of the fitment or the idea of drilling holes into the a-pillar...especially since the interior of my car is so mint!

2) As far as the steering wheel mount, rx7store.net has this one:
http://www.rx7store.net/product.asp?0=212&1=267&3=212

It's 99 bucks but doesn't work with the stock tabs. Anyone here have it?

There's also this one (RE Amemiya) that is $200. is it worh the the extra money?
http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fdinterior_gauges.html

This is the setup that I had in one of my older cars (supercharged 00 Civic Si). It was a custom job, but it doesn't look like there's any way to do something like this with the FD.

The rule of thumb is that where ever you decide to put it you want it to be visable. Where you mount it is a personal preference.

I have the wheel mount by the way.

Gauges in un-used DIN opening above aftermarket radio

Has anyone successfully installed gauges in the DIN opening that's left when you pull the stock radio and replace with a just a single DIN unit ?

I'd like to install the Boost/Vacuum and Coolant gauge there.

Thanks,
:-) neil

I have mine installed above my wheel, right infront of the tach. Its a good location because its easy to see, its almost like you can see it and the road at the same time.

I think the DIN location is too far away and out of site for the boost guage, i do have my coolant temp, a/f ratio, and fuel pressure guage down there though.

I am using a Border Gauge Pod with 60mm Greddy Gauges. It's not nearly as common as the A-Pillar setup.

That's what is currently in my car for water and oil temps. I have an A-pillar with Boost and a/f.

I have a 52mm boost gauge on A-pillar used autometer single mount (this is what pettit sells), glued on with silicone, fit well after sanding inside of edges to thin out ... no holes, wires fit up through gap between dash. pulled lighting power from headlight retractor switch (its right there). Gauge in good site line without blocking corner view.

I installed an oil temp gauge in dash between steering coulumn and cig lighter .. not the best place but top of gauge (all I need to see) is visable and fit-up looks stock like., better site line than DIN plate except its is blocked when turning.

I wanted center colmun mount for boost, but did not like fit and finish of pods.

Twin-Turbo93: where did you get the console to fit your 3-piece ? Looks like a custom fabricated piece ?

Thanks,

Neil, I did it myself, retrofitted a piece of plastic in there with some epoxy glue and cut the holes for the gauges...
