I am installing my boost gauge right now, and as most of you know, the hose that comes with the autometer gauge isn't long enough to reach the UIM. I am using a small length of silicone hose that I attached to the UIM, secured with either a small plastic zip tie or a metal hose clamp, and simply inserting the gauge hose into the other end of the silicone hose, and will secure it with either a plastic zip tie or metal hose clamp. Is this the best way to get an accurate reading, or is there a better alternative?

You could get the same nylon hose from your local car parts store for like $5.00.

 

Yes, but there's no way that size nylon tube will fit over the nipple on the UIM.

lovemyseven, your method is basically what I did, and it works fine. Just to make sure the connection was airtight, I used silicone sealant, and then carefully put some heat shrink tubing over it.

In regards to the tube isn't long enough, get some at a parts store.

And in regards to the nipple, I used a 1/8" to 1/4" rubber adapter and just zip tied it around the nylon tube. The 1/4" fits snug on the intake nipple. No leaks!

I guess some extra silicone hose would do...the adapter is like...50 cents? I dunno...it's cheap don't worry.

 

Sounds like what you have done is fine. I ran a longer piece of hose from the manifold to the small hose. Wanted to keep the connection further from the heat

 

I did the same. No zip-ties or heak shrink, just stuck the nylon hose into the rubber one, and it all worked fine.

 

I just got finished, I used two zip ties to secure the silicone hose to the UIM, both tightened in opposing directions to ensure a tight fit, then did the same where I inserted the small hose from the boost gauge into the silicone hose. seems to be working great

 

My VDO hose (my VDO gauge has since been replaced w/an AutoMeter) was plenty long to reach from the A-Pillar to the UIM
At First I used a 1" peice of Vac hose to join the Nylon hose to the UIM Nipple - However I found the heat turned the nylon hose brown & very brittle in about 3 months so I added aprox 8" of rubber Vac hose at the Uim and made the conection to the nylon hose back against the firewall
I made a lip on the end of the nylon hose by heating it with a small torch and secured the rubber hose w/ zip ties.

they have the same clear boost gauge hose but much bigger.
I clearcoated that with high engine temp stuff as best as I could and then used a piece of silicone to attatch it to the back of the gauge and to the uim like you guys said. I don't even have to use any zip ties its so tight but I did any way
