hey i am in the process of installing my greddy boost gauge and i have come with a few questions you all may be able to help me with...first, it seems that to wire it to the ashtray route is what most of you do....except the the ashtray only has 2 wires going to it and my gauge has 4 wires. WHere do i connect them all? and i am going to mount an autometer gauge pod on my a-pillar. i heard in order to do this you must take off the a-pillar so you can screw on the pod.....what is the easiest way/method of removing the a-pillar without damaging it? thanks alot for the help! -Jeff

for the A-pillar....grab it from the top and pull really hard...seriously...that's how I got mine out to put my gauge's in.

what colors are the wires?

ok well if i remove the pillar like you say...how hard will it be to put it back on...and look normal? The colrs of the wires are black, white, red, and orange (wires coming from gauge). The 2 wired on the ashtray light are both red. thanks again -Jeff

Is it a electronic boost gauge? Red wire will go to the ashtray (I don't think it matters which one), black is ground (ground it anywhere to the body), others I have no idea, should be in the instructions or go to www.greddy.com, they have instuctions.

the greddy site says this- red=12v constant
orange =12v ignition
whit= 12v lighting
black= chassis ground
does anyonee know where i should placethe ground wire? and i still dont know where to put the orange and red wires. As you can see i am new to this but want to do it myself so i can learn. ANy info is greatly appreciated! -Jeff

when you pull out the a pillar cover, it will come apart from the top, and you swing it out a little, and then out from it's groove at the bottom. Installation is the same way in. Place it in it's groove at the bottom and swing it until the inside notches match up with the notches on the a-pillar.

Okay, if I remember correctly here is what the wires connect to:

Black-ground
White-light
Red-constant
Orange-ignition

take a 12v checker thingamadohickey. I forgot the damn "proper" term but it looks like a pen with a metal tip and a wire coming out of it. On the end of the wire will likely be an alligator clip. Use that to find out points of light source/constant/ignition. Ground should be self explanitory.

Anyone feel free to jump in if I've got the wires mixed up, but that what I remember from installing my defi's....which by the way, use the same connectors for the sensors

The reason you have 4 wires on your meter is that two are to power the meter and the other two are to power the light in the meter. I may be wrong, but I believe you will not get any power to the ash tray light unless you have your lights on. What I suggest is powering the meter from the other side of the lighter power socket and powering the light on the meter from the ash tray. I had Ninjak help me with mine and he had to take apart part of the dash to install my Defi gauge to the inside of the lighter wires, but getting to the ashtray power was easier.

Hi,

When installing my boost guage, I tied into the radio wire harness, it has dimmer, power, ground etc.., should have everything you need and is closer than the ashtray. I had an aftermarket adapter harness for an aftermarket deck which made identification very easy. They have worked flawlessly since installing.

Just a word of caution, if you are installing the autometer dual guage pod, I would reccomend against it, last year in a spin at the track, I smashed my coolant guage with my hand and made a good dent in the aluminum casing, it didn't hurt but something tells me it will if it happens again.

what electronics class did that come from?

if you take the ground and place it on the ground of the battery, then take the orange and the red and connect them together, then run them to the positive of the battery, the gauge will read. If you then connect the white, the background light will turn on.

You need to have a constant and an ignition to hold memory(constant) and to turn the gauge off when the car turns off(ignition). Like how your car stereo remembers what radio channels are played. You can't have just the red and the black to work, or the orange and black, you have to have the red/orange and black connected.

(black wire)Ground goes to any metal screw on the body.

(white wire)for light, just splice into the ashtray light, that's the easiest way if you don't want to take apart my dash.

(red wire)find yourself a constant wire

(orange wire)find a ignition wire(I think the lighter is one)


OR...

Listen to solo1seven...that's the EASIEST way to do it.

thanks for the help guys but can anyone be a little more specific on where i can find an ignition and constant wire? i really dont want to accidentally pull the wrong wire and screw things up. ANd if the lighter is the best location for an ignition wire how hard is it to remove/put back the dash? I last question, the ashtray has 2 wires running to it....it doesnt matter which one i splice into right? thanks alot! -Jeff
