boost controller or ecu?????
hi, i just bought my car about a month ago and i've been told i should either get a boost controller or an upgraded ecu. mods: PFS exhaust, PFS intercooler, elbow and BOV, downpipe and midpipe pushing around 12psi. would a boost controller solve any possible problems that i could encounter or do i need to get the ecu? would i lose any power if i lowered the boost back down to 10psi with the boost controller, if so what kind of expected loss?
any suggestions would be very helpful
Thanks

I plan on going with the Boost controler and just limit my boost to 10 psi. After im done with Hp mods I was going to get my ECU. I was just going to watch my psi and make sure i didnt run lean. Either way would work Id think but dont mark my words. And yes you would lose a bit of Hps when you went down to 10psi but they way i see it, i would rather have less hps then a knocking engine.
Anyone else?

I doubt you will be able to hold boost at 10 psi with a midpipe. Take the midpipe off or get an ecu. I think the only thing that's saving you right now is you don't have an open intake.

He has dp, mp, and cb @ 12psi on a stock ecu!
If you spike any higher you will blow that motor and the cold weather is here! Get an ecu first and do the home depot boost controller for now, it's like $17.
The boost controller may not prevent all spikes but if you get the ecu, atleast you'll have the fuel if it does spike.

The ECU would help with a fuel problem that you would get as soon as you change the intake. If you get a boost controller I would sugest an AFC as well.... depending on any other mods that you are doing of course!

I run DP,CB,Blitz open air,all the emmission stuff eliminated, spiking to 12 ,and so far......I know ,I am playing with dissaster (basicly facing same dilema ECU or boost controler).I guess it depends on how far you wanna go.The only other mod that I wanna do is SMIC ,pulleys so if you keep the cat in place and engine management working properly just keep the boost down .
But that's just my op.

Apex Power FC with Commander. Set boost to 11 psi. Safe and effective, and you won't run the risk of popping the motor...unless you're looking for an excuse to have a ported motor installed When you decide to bore out your 850-cc secondaries to 1300 cc, and install a Nippondenso competition fuel pump, you can run 12 to 13 psi without much trouble...

I noticed you guys are talking about just regulating boost to 10lbs with all those mods to keep safe, try reading this post, just my 2 cents:
