Which Boost Controller

Which boost controller do you guys recommend, I cant seen to get my boost pattern very stable with needle valves. Right now its 9-10-8-11-8. Kinda weird. But what electronic boost controllers do you guys like?

The GReddy Profec B is nice a simple. Two boost settings and a toggle switch. Very popular and inexpensive (as far as boost controllers go). The Apexi AVC-R has lots of cool features. You can set different boost levels for every 500 rpms. Nice looking, but is a little more complicated. The price is a little high. I don't have any experience with the others. Good luck.

Thumbs up APEX'i Power FC for Boost Control

Most new Japanese boost controllers are pretty darn nice if that's all you're looking for. If you're planning to do a little more with your car than just tune up the boost settings, I'd recommend the Power FC from Apex Integration. Its a lot pricier than any of the lone boost conrollers, but its probably the best controller money can buy for the RX-7. It is vehicle specific and allows for much more than just boost control capabilities. Virtually every part of the car that is controlled by the ecu in some way can be modified with the Power FC. You can also use it to compensate for changes in air/fuel ratios, exhaust and even intake variations. It will also save you the hassle of having to buy an air/fuel controller later. The computer will set you back almost a thousand dollars or more if you get the digital display commander, but once you've got it tuned, you wont have to worry about getting other systems and learning how to use them and whether they look good or whatever your judgement standards are. Thanks for the info guys. I know about the PFC and such, but I cant afford 1000 bucks, plus I already have the EFI PMS, which controls boost about the same way, and Isnt doing a good enough job. But now that I think of it my boost isnt too far off. Here is what I got, tell me what you think:

9psi from 2500-4000
10psi from 4000-4500
Dip at transition then to 11 psi until 6000
8psi from 6000 to redline.

I am just concerened about the drop near redline. Do you think a boost controller will fix that?

You're gonna want a drop before redline. If that's your main problem, relax. The reason the drop in boost is there is so there's less stress on the engine as it approaches its high end of the envelope. If you're powershifting through gears on hard acceleration, max boost at times where you may be spanking the rev limiter with the rpm's is pretty dangerous. Especially if you're running high boost and you shift right at the redline. This is the best way to keep it for street, but if it really bugs the hell out of you, do some reading one what all you have to do to make your engine qualified to run to I higher rpm redline and then program whatever boost controller you decide to go with so that you can keep your preferred hi-boost setting through to your torque peak. Just make sure you tell the controller to back off boost sometime that's not dangerously close to the redline. Good luck.
