The primary injectors are supposed to have rubber seals that seal the end of the fuel rail to the center iron. If those are missing or REALLY shot you'll have a vacuum leak from there. Or if the primary rail was installed without the plastic spacer between the rail and the center iron that rail will be cockeyed and not seal properly. that hose from the Y-pipe introduces air around where the primary injector tips are so if those seals are bad it will show a leak there.

With good long needle nose pliers you can probably change that hose out without having to dig deep in there. Start with that and see how it goes.

I installed new grommets and the plastic spacer is in place. I didn't see if the smoke was coming from the injectors. It looked like it was coming from the hose itself.

I found that the smoke came from the primary injectors. I removed the injectors and seals and they were trashed. I replaced the seals and now there is no more vacuum leak coming from them. When I finish putting everything back together I will post the results.

***Update*** Replacing the injector seals on the primary rail fixed my problem. Mazda Motorsports catalogue has the part number for the primary and secondary injector seals backwards. I bought what the catalogue said was the right part number and it was wrong. I went on mazdatrix website and they have the correct part numbers for the seals.

Nice! I'm so glad you found the issue!

It's interesting that such a little thing would make a significant difference.

The frustration is only there to invoke elation when you figure it out

BTW, you may want to let Mazda Comp know their numbers are wrong

You have got that right. I am going to give them a call and tell them about it.
