BNR Stage 3 Turbo's

Hey everyone, Picking up my 93' Rx-7 w/ only 20k miles in a week!, and already have plenty of money in stock to do plenty of upgrades and fun. although. Currently stuck on choice of the turbo upgrade. Choosing between the T51 kit or the BNR Stage 3's (Yes, big difference), but i can't find much info about them. and was curious if anyone could give me an estimate on the hp numbers they "can" pull.. or if they suck just say so =p

Thanks a bunch! hope to meet more of you in the future!

I can't imagine trying to decide between the BNRs and a T-51R....

Even if you go single, there are so many turbos that would be much more fun and streetable than a T-51R. A T-51R makes full boost at 5000+ rpm and is pretty much a drag strip only turbo IMO.

There have been threads by SPOAutos, GoodfellasFD3S, and Agentspeed regarding the BNRs. All of them are running the turbos non-sequentially. I will be running my set sequentially as soon as my rebuild is finished (hopefully by next week). I am hoping to make a reliable 350 rwhp on a car that will pass emissons as is (sniffer test and visual inspection)....

Hey rynberg, i look forward to seeing what number you put out with your BNR's sequentially. I've always wanted to get some BNR's and i'm just a big fan of sequential too, plus smog and all.

Oh yeah, nice car btw. I dropped by Ricks a week or so ago, and your car was in the lift. I love your RP-01's.

Thanks for the compliments.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the walk softly and carry a big stick philosophy......we'll see what the car does once it's fully broken-in and I can get her tuned up to 15-16 psi (most I'll ever run on pump gas). I'm also a fan of just driving into a smog shop and passing without sweating it or having to find a "friendly tech"....

Just curious rynberg...Do you plan on using the stock solenoids, or trying out the new upgraded solenoids? (https://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-center-69/gb-custom-solenoid-replacement-447238/)

Given that I'm already well into the 5-figures and 4-months in on this project, and given how many new parts the car is already getting, I'm passing on the upgraded solenoids....I'll wait until they have been in use for a while and the "kits" are refined....

My first thoughts are... an RX7 with ONLY 20K miles? and you're thinking about modding the heck out of it already? To each his own I guess... I'm a large fan of stock as you can tell. Good luck with the mods though, if you are doing that. I just think a pristine, unmolested FD with low miles are pretty rare nowadays. If you must mod it though, yes, BNR is a much better way to go. I know a few folks with them and they are happy with it.

Where's abouts in WI are you?

I'm in Mequon, 10 minutes north of Milwaukee.

And yes, the FD only has 20k miles, I'm not afraid of spending the extra cash for a FD that will last longer to me then buying one that has 100k miles and just rebuilding it. plus i want a fresh start to do what i wish to the car and make sure the money is worth every penny on the upgrades i choose..

As for all the replies about the decision i thank you kindly for helping a newbie on the boards =p As far as my decision i've a long way to go i guess. The numbers i'm hoping to pull out of the 7 and what i've heard and read about both turbo's i thought would be best for the job seems aren't suited to the task. But i'll keep on and if any more questions arise i'll be sure to send them, thanks again! =D

Keep in mind you don't have to lay down alot of power to keep up with vettes, mustangs, etc. etc. One of the advantages of the 7 is it's lightweight.

Oh it's not that, it is the point of the project, but a new point came up when a kid i've known for probably 8 years. his mommy n' daddy bought em' a 5000 dollar crashed 93 FD R1 that he spent a year with his dad rebuilding. and supposedly it runs 350whp now as it's all fixed up and he talked a lot of trash about what i had planned for my own FD.. but aside from that there's some other cars around the area that erm.. i "have" to race at some point, but it's also to be a show car in the end, something i can stand back and have pride in looking what i've all created. And i'll be doing most of the work so i do "earn" the brag rights.. but.. doesn't mean i'm actually going to =p

Overall, a great learning experience, a lot of money spent, but.. tho 2 can't go well together if it's not fun, right? =p
