blown primary pics

I took my FD for a drive down the highway, she was boosting about 12psi in 4th doing maybe 90-100kmh when I felt what was like an ever so slight miss followed by a faint burn smell but it all went away and everything seemed normal ( boost etc...).
But since then ( that was about a week ago or so) I notice there seems to be a distinct lack of boost between 0-4000rpm in all gears, hardly any in 1st.
So I decided to take a looksee to find the problem.
I found quite a bit of oil around the primary-Y pipie connection, upon further inspection I've found more oil down in side the Y-pipe, see pics.

can anyone say ' blown primamry'

I've located a set of twins off a 98 FD with only 28,000kms on them for $400, I can get them but will they fit onto my 92 Typre -R? or are they different ?

They should bolt right up! I have seen far worse looking primary turbos on a 93 model.

Sounds more like a disconnected vacuum hose problem. Oil in the Y-Pipe or IC pipes is quite normal. Don't forget to check your Wastegate and Pre-Control connections (c-clips) on the manifold from underneath the vehicle.

I agree... even with freshly rebuilt turbos i still saw a little mist of oil in the IC piping. Eventually if you don't clean that off etc... it might look like that.

I'm running non- seq, and these turbos have 170k on them with absolutly no rebuild in the past. So I would say they , at least, need coming off to inspect. Also the shaft has about 1-2mm of play so....yeah.

ok, so I just got the Y-pipe off and had a look, there is a fairly thick rim of oil around the rim under the gasket ( see pics) and down in the turbo it looks pretty dirty.
I'm starting to think that maybe its just dirt and oil buildup ( new filters needed?) and my primamry aint blown at all.

does that look like an oil seal going out in the primary ya reckon?

if 98's are only $400 AUD as u say

i woudln't even bother trying to trouble shoot it..

buy the 98's, do the PROPER non-seq conversion, and just change that sucker out...

I'd say maybe you should look elsewhere,
that turbo doesn't look blow to me,
oil will get in places at times..
but often a blown turbo/seal will show the turbo COATED in oil,
like it's all over the turbos blades and shaft and such.

Look at other areas of the engine as well, to see if something is busted there.

Check valve or hose off somewhere, deffinately not turbos.
