Blown 94, what to do?

Well, I was having some major problems with my FD lately (stumbling idle, backfire, would die when in idle and took about a minute to start each time I cranked it over) so I took it down to a local shop and they ran a compression check. I got a whopping 60! Might I add that I barely even got 60. My car is warrantied with a 3yr/36k mile and I have about 31k miles left on the warranty. I'm going to call them up and let them know they have to cover me for a new engine. My question is, what is going to happen from there? Will they tell me where I have to get the engine from, or do they just send me a check based on 3 quotes from shops on how much it is going to cost? I'm most likely going to get a Mazda Reman, or should I consider other options? Thanks.

be careful...REMOVE ALL AFTERMARKET PARTS BEFORE HAND. they will come out to inspect the vehicle...if you have aftermarket parts you wont get them to cover it easily...IF AT ALL.

i speak from personal experience....they voided my warrantee when they saw i had upgraded suspension and intake stuffs. the car must look stock.

good luck

you can get your work done anywhere you want.

the mazda remans are JUNK....three of five recent remans at my fave shop went out within a year and they had to rebuild them again.

your best bet is to go with Rotary Reliability and Racing in Santa Ana. Nick builds the best motors anywhere and he warrantees his motor for 12 months 24k miles. 7148398018 call and ask him what the price would be for all the work. He beats most everyones prices.

Im running big boost thru his streetported and ceramic apex sealed motor...

get the motor ported while you are at it. he does great with streetports...you can upgrade the apex seals as well...going with hurleys or as in my case Ianetti Ceramics.

good luck

I'm taking all my aftermarket stuff off this weekend. Suspension, intake, dp, cb and turbo timer. It willbe 100% stock by next week.

Will the insurance company send me a check? How will I be able to get a ported motor with upgraded seals payed for by insurance?

Also, the warranty is from texas and I'm in San Diego. Do you still think they will come all the way out here, or does my insurance company send someone out? Thanks once again.

your warrantee company should have someone local to inspect...mine was in new hampshire...they sent out their ***** no problem.

your insurance will pay whomever you take it to...if you take the car to nick he will do the work and get the parts and they will have to pay him.

they pay the shop...at least in my case...

they may have you authorize a tear down so they can come inspect the vehicle.

they will try to get you on the "abuse" clause in there somewhere. Nick and Louis will help explain that these motors just GO.

call nick and talk to him....he can answer these questions for you. tell him i sent you over. he will help you.

btw...you will probably have to cover the porting (300bucks i think) and they should cover the seals...unless you do 3mm and i think thats another few hundred bucks at least to do the milling.

you can get by with stock seals though..as long as you are aware of what your afr's are.

at the very least GET the port job. you will be a happy man...with your mod list your car will finally wake up.

j

get an ecu as soon as you can.

Dam...sorry to hear about your engine...I know how that feels.....! But like Artguy said...."REMOVE ALL AFTERMARKET PARTS BEFORE HAND. they will come out to inspect the vehicle..." Ya...I made this mistake when I barely got my FD....my turbos weren't boosting right and the "Rotary Specialist" at Alhambra Mazda instructed me that I needed a new engine...and my dumbass had the HKS intake plus the car came with Nitto Drags in the back...so when the appraiser from my extended warranty company showed up...they claimed that I was racing my car and denied my claim!!

So good luck with the engine....Tanabe got a reman about 8months ago and after installing the HKS TwinPower...one rotor went kaplook! I myself have had a reman for about 2 years now...and so far so good...knock on wood!

Depending on your Warranty Company....a lot of them would just approve a reman because it's cheaper!!

Sorry for the wrong post fellas!

Don't say the words "new motor", "blown motor", etc! You do "not" get a "new" motor anyhow. If you pay enough money you will get new parts when the block is rebuilt but you will not get a complete new motor.

-> I would use words wisely and translate it to piston language. Make them think a blown rotor seal is similar to a blown head gasket. Knowlege is power.

Take advantage and pay the difference yourself for new parts and better seals but don't try to force the insurance to pay for the upgrades on the rebuild or it may backfire on you.

Sorry to hear that.

They should pay for a "stock" rebuild so anything else you want done you will have to pay out of pocket ie: porting as stated above.

You can take the car anywhere you want.

Thanks for the replys guys. I'm going to give Nick a call at RR&R and see what he can do for me. While the motor is getting rebuilt, I think I'm going to do the hose job and maybe run Evans coolant. Anything else I should be concerned with because I'm basically starting over on my car, lol. Thanks!

good time to do an act clutch...all ya need is the pressuer plate....you can go with a stock disk and a stock throwout bearing....

good time to clean out the engine bay with degreaser and do some touch up painting....if you want that kinda clean look....

when i did my motor i had them replace anything that looked like it needed to be.

they will do injectors for you as part of the engine rebuild...its a MUST. the question is...do you want to spend the money to get your NEEDED ecu now and just go ahead and get the 1300 cc injectors....while they are easy to replace. nick wont charge ya for the extra labor if you do the injectors now...if you wait...then it will be more expensive.

Good luck man, I know exactly how you feel! My 94 is still in the shop after 4 weeks now! I was stupid though, I just ordered another stock motor, and now I wish I would have taken the extra time to find a good specialist to rebuild me a street- ported or at least something to that extent! So instead of waiting a week or so, it's now going on a month or so because "they say" the motor was on back order! ha Anyway, it's worth the extra bucks too! I just had to learn that the hard way!
GOOD LUCK MAN!!!
