Blowing Smoke

Hi All,

Car going great with all systems apparently normal. Recently I noted quite a bit of smoke (mainly white) when I light up the second turbo. Its quite noticable in the rear view as I vorex it through the air.

My mechanic said that rotary engines are harder on oil and need to be changed regularly. The oil that was in was really dark and like treacle - horrible. We totally drained and fushed the system and put is new oil.

That said the oil is already very black two weeks later and I note the smoke haze has returned on 2nd turbo light up.

Any experts out there who know what is going on?

Whilst the car is a 1993 - I'm only the second owner of a perfect original car which had the engine professionally rebuilt at 50,000 km. She has now just turned over 70,000 clicks.

Cheers.

FM

Ok to be serious now lol. If white smoke is coming out, its coolant not oil. If the smoke is blue-ish white, then its oil. If the smoke only comes out when the 2nd turbo comes online, then you have have bad coolant or oil seals on the turbo and may need a rebuild, or a single turbo . Whats up with your font? Nothing bad or anything, it's just that out of my whole time being a member here, you're the first person to have changed their font throughout their whole post lol.

Question

thanks for that

no oil leaks in the bay or on the floor and no gunk in the coolant - all clean

the smoke is pretty dark (brown in colour) - not white and there is not much
I only really notice when I floor her into 2nd boost - when there appears a small cloud
my mechanic says its running very rich and I concur that it has since I bought her

is there any way I can dail back the petrol mixture?

as for the wife driving - well I bought it for her - this is her 4th RX7

I usually drive another German car

font ok - but its good to try something different sometimes

this is a good site with plenty of sound advice offered - cheers

Mark
