Thumbs up Blitz intake review

It comes as a kit: Two pipes, two filters and a metal heat shield.

The metal filter is actually soft, thought it would be hard. If you dent it you can open up a wider hole. I haven't dropped it or dented it but that's what I was told.

The car sounds better, especially on vacuum. I noticed an increase in respons/power. Seems very smooth and the 3k rpm stumble is 90% gone. It breaths easily now.

There is no temperature increase and no loss of power from heat. The car actually felt like it had more power.

There are some drawbacks: The metal piping (and heat shied) does get hot, The filter only warm (but the metal cold air boxes get hot also). I will send them to Jet Hot eventually.

I beleive the kit was intended for for the stock intercooler and maybe the Blitz stock mount. It's a snug fit (filters) with the Greddy SMIC and the heat shield doesn't line up perfect. The Blitz SMIC is not as wide. I Will have to trim the heat shield.

There is a smaller kit (intended) for the FMIC. I haven't used the Apexi but I like the Blitz better than the cold air kits.

Unhappy Sorry, I didn't post pics

I will borrow a digital cam asap. I bought it from Phase2motortrend. The heat shield goes under the filters and has "L" brackets that screw in to where the stck box did and also screw down the pipes so the filters don't move. The heat shied covers the fans from the radiator. It's not a thin aluminum peice, maybe 1/4 steel.

You said the intake came with pipes. Would you be talking about hard pipes to replace the accordian style OEM intake pipes? How much did the kit run you?

On my friends white Rx-7. Which is the car you are using in your AVATOR, he has a BLITZ intake as well, that I had polished for him and chrome plates that heatshield.

Unhappy Sorry, no pics yet

No, it doesn't replace the rubber accordian pipes. There are two adapter pipe/fittings that connect the filters to the rubber accordian ones (similar to the ones for the Apexi). The metal adapter pipes screw on to the heat shield. That keeps them tight in place but it might be adding a slight metalic sound (maybe an echo/reverb thing or maybe me hearing). The filters are a bit loud with the windows open. It has a deep growl noise and the blow off woosh is louder also. I paid $325 for the "kit" from www.phase2motortrend.com

Turbo Teddy, how much for polishing? Wayne mentioned you did a white one, mine is also white.

Sorry, haven't been able to borrow a camera yet.

Since it's made for a stock FD, it took a little tweaking to line up the "L" brackets. The rod for the hood won't go in the original place and I have it resting diagonaly foward towards the bumber.

There is another kit with smaller filters (4" instead of 6"), probably the same size as Apexi's. It's made to be able to fit with a FMIC. I don't know if it would work with a Medium SMIC or not.

I beleive rx7fashion has polished pipes that will replace the rubber accordian ones.
