Exclamation Bleeding air from the cooling system

All the threads I find tell you how to do it if you have an AST. I don't so I need to know the best method for bleeding a non-AST system. I keep getting air and don't know how to stop it. Please advise!

Check the FAQ thread.

This is what I use in my non-AST equipped car:

Coolant Burping Tool/ Radiator Cap Funnel

also known as burping the system:

"Run the car for a about three minutes (don't drive it because you may be low on coolant due to all the displaced air) and shut it down. Put a rag over the engine coolant cap and open it up, pulse the big coolant hose, and top it off. You will need to do this several times. The first time you drive it take some water with you because you may get the "Add Coolant" buzzer and you don't want to drive the car for more than about 30 seconds with the buzzer on. Remove the radiator cap and top off the coolant level before you drive the car for the next three drives and you will have a well purged coolant system."

Disconnect the throttle body coolant hose before filling the coolant. This will allow air to escape when you fill the system. Don't forget to put the hose back on before starting the car.

+1....The TB coolant line is the highest point in the cooling system and is the best way to burp the air out.

X2 And if you want to make sure you can use a hand vac and pull the air out!

Hand vac is an interesting idea.

My method is to fill it with the throttle body hose disconnected. Either fill super slowly or fill and walk away for a while. It takes time for the little air bubbles to percolate up and make room for more coolant.

Open the filler cap and squeeze the radiator hoses to push air out.

When i deleted the throttle body hose on the new motor i was scared of overheating all that $$$$$$ so i used the vac pump at the sending unit on the back of the water pump and never have had to put any more water in it yet. A barbed fitting worked great.
