Black Stock Wheels?
Guys... when did this happen? It seems like every other FD i see with stock wheels has them painted black. WTF? Since when did this become the cool thing to do?

man I don't know who started this black wheel look . but I think it looks like crap. it makes the car look cheep. wheels should enhance the look of the car not cheapen it. I see the honda guys with black wheels and they look like there out of the junk yard. whats wrong with cleaning the wheels when you wash the car. even the stock rims look good if clean.

i think we just see it too much in cali that it looks like the cheap way out if you cant afford aftermarket rims.
i just bought a stock 240sx and it came with black painted rims..first thing i did was buy paint stripper

I thought it came out good on mine... I suppose its all personal preference though. I did it as a means to hold me off until I could afford those Volk Time Attacks(black with a red lip).
I think its one lesson you learn really fast when modding your own car. Do what you enjoy and dont take what others think (specially the negatives) to heart so much. To me, theres nothing tacky about this... I spent a good deal of time prepping each one and applying the paint, I dont even remember how many layers of clear coat I put on... but it was a lot, lol.
Oh yea... I do remember spending about 2 hours on each wheel because I sanded out any curb rashes or imperfections from the previous owner. So I can say this isnt such a 'cheap mod'. It is quite a bit of labor and gets tedious.

Yea, but a lot of those Hondas you see with black wheels.... are just steelies with the hubcaps removed...
Admit it, yer all just jealous of the mad jay dee emm styles of my early 90's family sedan with factory black wheels, right? Right?
Well it was worth a shot. I've always liked black wheels on the right color car. FD is no exception, I think they look good. I was thinking maybe doing mine someday when the original finish is not so hot, but they're holding up nicely so far.
