No the engines are almost identical,

did you check A/F with a Wide Band O2 sensor? - An A/F guage running off the stock O2 sensor will show rich below 14:1 A/F ratio BUT an FD wants to run at 12.5:1 or richer on Boost. so 13.9:1>12.5:1 while rich for NA cars is too lean for a BOOSTED engine.

if you are still running stock (10psi) boost and the stock air filter, intake and IC you may not be flowing enough to run lean - but wil prob go way lean as soon as you open up the intake.

You are probably running lean and should consider a aftermarket ECU.

haven't you heard the saying "leaner is meaner?" Your car will probably feel stronger til...BOOM. Actually, most recommend the 3 mod rule, so you should be ok, until that first really hot day, or bad tank of gas, or ...?

I don't think Mazda would be that dumb to make the REW that unreliable past what it is now to where if you boost 1 psi above what is stock, that the whole car will blow up. You can run up to 12 to 13 psi but you better watch it after that.

lets see... he said full exaust: that's and aftermarket dp, mp, and cat back. In addition an open intake! thats more than the 3 mod rule... im no expert but running more than 10-11 psi, he will have to, sooner or later need to upgrade the ecu or fuel... he may not know that he is lean until he gets a wideband o2... so y not keep it on stock boost until he is sure!?!

i took complete exhaust to mean that it was all there, as in stock, as opposed to open. my mistake.

its your car. go for it. I think you'll be ok. Anyway you can get a PFS PMC (tec2, or tec3 piggyback), PFC (it'll work-i run one), greddy emanage, piggybacked Haltech, and I think Pettit can remap your stock ecu. There's no excuse. Now swap in some bigger injectors and blow up your tranny!

You should edit your signature to read "on the way fresh rebuild..."

I guarantee you will pop it if you up the boost and then get on it. I had intake, downpipe, and a catback @ 11psi - chipped the corner off of a seal less thn a month after putting the intake on.

you have to seek some people who have ecu upgrade to their auto rx7... try the AT club, they will have the answer for you for which ecu to buy... i read the Haltech is not for beginners! Power FC is easy friendly but auto loses the Hold button unless you modifie it... try searching on the PowerFC on auto... tons of info!!

I agree what weackling have mention... the auto tranny is not that strong, so it will degrade if you run higher boost... search on this also!!

Good luck

HEY! It's WEAKLINK not WEAKLING! Note to self...get NEW nickname. Incidently I joined the forum around the time my tranny blew-hence the nickname. I think the auto tranny is the weak link of an otherwise great car. I guess since my new one has held, then maybe I can pick a new one.

with the automatic tranny your not reving to 8k threw every gear so it's not going to be running up to as high of an injector %, there for your not even using peak power.. I love to get engines out of automatic cars, they are usually in damn good condition because they see very little stress = cheap overhaul..
