I purchased the RE shifter today for around $180 shipped. Can't wait to get it in but I'll see how it goes with that 1 first.I don't mind if it's not an awful lot shorter than stock but I hope its noticeable!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh don't say that to me!!!I even think stock shifter is pretty long but I would prefer smoothness than notchiness as most of you guyz who have b&m's describe it as that. Its been mixed emotions about both and was tough to decide which 1 to get .So anotherwords the perfect shifter is the Mazdaspeed or does it have some minor flaws also???Will have to enquire bout 1 of these in the near future!

Can't tell you about the MS but the RE-A is a shorter throw, just not a tiny throw like the B&M. The RE-A takes no effort to change gears, can be easily done with one finger and wrist in the same position (exept 5th & R). The B&M took some effort but since the throw is so short it took 10 times longer to depress the clutch pedal. I'd rather have the two in synch. The RE-A is a very comfortable hight and too short of a throw is not needed.
I can't see the RE-A being stock cut shorter. It's a different weight and the thickness is different. You can see the stocker in that pic looking rusty and the RE-A painted black.

i like my RE-A. I think the biggest difference is the metal collar for the shifter.. not the length.
and paying 180 for the RE-A is way too much
i got mine for 140 CND to my door, brand new in the re-a box and with the re-a manual (not like it helped at all.. i can't read japanese)

Yeah I paid about $180 USD shipped for the RE-A shifter and about $85 shipped for the RX-8 **** but I want the lighted one now. I would like to see how the MS feels but it does reminds me of Neuspeed and I would think the throw is too short and that is only needed for a track car. I think a medium throw is just right (said the bear eating his pourage).

i've had both b&m (replica) and authentic RE-A. b&m throws are much shorter and require more effort to click into gear plus it rattled very annoyingly in my car. RE-A is in between b&m and oem in throw but it feels just like the oem one and I love it!
I got the b&m for sale if you wanna try it!

B&M is the way man.......i had both the RE and B&M and the B&M has a better feel like more aggressive feel when shifting vs. the RE when its just smooth and goes in gear easily. imo i like the aggressiveness it gives..like it clicks into nuetral then clicks into gear kinda way.

Someone requests photos so here is mine Gotham Racing short shifter. Have an aftermarket gear *** which sucks at the moment, in the photo it's the OEM one which didn't really fit on the new shifter.
I really love the shifter and it makes the same clicking sound as others have mentioned before.
My only issue with the engine rebuild is that I get rattling noises from the clutch area at high gears and low RPM when I floor the throttle. It's very annoying and it's the only thing stopping me from fully enjoying the car again. Not sure if I broke something during installation or if I've installed something wrong. Brand new ACT clutch and flywheel...

Call me gramps!
Anyways, I enjoy the clicks during long straight aways so that I know I'm in gear without having to slam as hard as humanly possible. After using a stock shifter again, I can say that the B&M is a well deserved upgrade.

That's one of the beauties of the B&M shifter! Take some time on a weekend afternoon to learn play around with your B&M shifter. Really, I'm not joking. There is a way to shift it, which requires a little finesse and a slightly shorter/more accurate shift, where the shifter will not click. Rather, it will simply slide into gear.

If it's going to be the same going in the FD, i'm for sure going the B&M Route again.
