Which is better: Coated or SS Downpipe?

I searched but couldn't find anything. So which holds up better?

Also, when the hood is open will a person actually be able to see the downpipe?

The turbos will sound louder just because it is stainless steel? I thought all downpipes would do this.

it's just physics, with a coating, it absorbs the higher pitched sounds, in my experience

Ok, so what about heat? Would a high temp coat keep the heat within the downpipe more than stainless steel?

holds up to what better? are you talking about discoloration or rust or heat or what?

it really doesn't seem to matter if the dp is stainless steel or aluminized steel. the aluminized steel will get a light coating of surface rust, but it won't rust through for more years than you need to worry about due to the thickness of the metal. the coating will make it look a little prettier and help retain some heat w/in the dp and keep the engine bay cooler.

if you are ****, get a stainless dp, jet hot coat it and then wrap it in header wrap to get heat out of the engine bay. if not, get any used dp in the classified section here and wrap it in header wrap and you'll be good to go.

By holding up better I am talking about how long it lasts without rusting.

The process is heat coating. Jet Hot is a brand name, just like Ghost and Microsoft. You can't Ghost or Microsoft a computer, uhg! Anyhow, I think they suck. Try perfomancecoatings or someone else closer to you. The rate should be $20-$23/foot length, so a DP would cost $60 + tax and/or shipping. It takes one week to coat and dry. You will need the 2k degree coating for the DP.

The best choice is heat coated stainless steel.

^ I had a DP coated with the 2k stuff and it was crumbly like the outside of a stucko house. Perfomancecoating says theirs is smooth. Mr Stock's was smooth. He had his TriPoint DP blue 2k coated at Jet Hot. So since the DP was polished, I thought it sucked to have such a rough finish. Also, the coating came off around the holes on the flange after just test fitting.

GoRacer is right.

I had mild steel and stainless and SS does sound louder.

U can hear the turbos.

I had the SS ceramic coated and the heat reduction is better than with mild steel downpipe.

Front cover would be at the front of the block behind the main pulley.

Maybe you got a bad coating?
My friend Jet-Hotted the ENTIRE exhaust when he had is blown mustang. When we got the exuast back, the coating was as hard as steel.

After we installed, we noticed a HUGE differance in cockpit temperatures. We went from sweating to no more sweating in the interior.

I can't comment on the smoothness. I guess it's just a matter of preferance. But to say if the texture makes a differance I dunno.

they might. most of the stuff from ebay is kinda sketchy at best. if you are looking for a cheap dp, check the classified section. otherwise rx7store and gotham have them at a good price. maybe same as the ebay price.
