Bet you can't answer this one.

Ok I just put my trany back on my engine and in my bolt bag that I labeled trany bolts I found this one. I can not figure out for the life of me where it goes. It was in the same bag as the bolts that hold the starter, trany to motor bolts, the inspection covers and cover bolts, and the bolts that hold on the clutch slave. By the way the car is standard. Anyone have any idea. Thanks

It has been a while since I have dropped the tranny, but that looks like one of the starter bolts.

What have you put back together that you cannot find where this one goes?

There is no way that it goes to the starter, there are only two bolts that hold it on and they were in a different bag The bolt has a larger than normal washer on it, and its too thin to hold anything heavy in place...

Maybe?

It looks like a bolt that is just above the starter. You can't see the hole from the top or the bottom, you have to feel around.

I just took my tranny out yesterday, the 2nd time I have done this, so I am pretty familiar with the bolts.. That thing is too long to be anything but the top starter bolt. (unless you removed extra things that you didn't have to) Which should have a nut that goes on the end of it. The only thing I don't remember is if mine has that little nub on the end or not. If you don't get this answered for sure later, then I'll go look and tell you what mine looks like.

Yep my starter bolt looks like that but I don't have the little nub at the end of the threads.

If you put everything that you took off when removing the tranny into the bag, then replaced the tranny and every fastener has been installed, but now you have an extra fastener. That means only one thing which I have suspected for a while; our perception of reality is not correct, and out universe is not stable.

I agree with CEWRXR1.

I always end up with a 1 or 2 extra bolts after I work on the car.

When I relocated the battery to the rear passenger bin, I had 3 screws left over after I was done. I put them in the ash tray along with the other bolts, screws, nuts and fasteners which I accumulated over the years of working on my car. When it's full I'll auction them off on Ebay.

To get back on topic, sort of, when I drop my tranny in a week or two, I'll keep an eye out for that bolt.

Quick rundown....Got an hour or so? Quick, remove bolts, take out...Come on, you have to remove the bell housing bolts, take out the exhaust, remove the chassis tie brackets, remove the drive shaft, Oh yeah, jack the car up or put it on a lift, remove the alternator, remove the slave cylinder, remove the inspection plate, disengage the cluthc t/o bearing, use pry bar, remove tranny. Is that quick enough?

dropping the tranny in these suckers is a beeyotch...unless you have a lift.

I did it on my back...took a couple days for the in and out...lots of bitching...but it got done.

it does look like a starter bolt....the long one.

The long starter bolt that comes from the engine side unlike the other bolts. It should hold in the starter .... but if you already have that bolt in place then you are magically creating bolts or a friend is having fun at your expense.
