best place to get upgraded vacuum lines?

can u use just regular vacuum line hose? Or is there a special kind that is needed? How much $$$? Also, what is used to hold them on?

I'll 2nd that endorsement for HT's stuff. I wouldn't bother with the kit, I've heard you get way too much. I bought 40' of 3.5mm and 15' of 6mm along with 120 nylon ties and the price came in under $100 and I had plenty left over after I was done with the job.

If you want to save some serious coin, you can get the same stuff from McMasterCarr.

The only difference is that the color is a crappy orange color. It is good stuff though. I think I spent like $35.

I would go with Viton hose, I just replaced a few hoses and this stuff is really strong it doesnt split like silicon.It wont break down when in contact with oil or fuel vapors.I was told at two shops including Pettit not to use silicon, they only use goodyear rubber hose when they do a hose job.

i just ordered 35 ft of 4mm and 10 ft of 6mm from www.bakerprecision.com for like $65. i havent recieved them yet but ive heard it is good stuff from the forum and biglist. i think that is the least expensive place for decent silicone hosing of almost any size.

www.thermalflex.com They make stuff for F1 cars, industrial and medical use. They are actually a manufacturer unlike HoseTech wich just sells cheap product at a cheap price. Hold TF up to HT and you will see a HUGE difference in quality.

HT is just catering to the market with a product they found.

TF has a race proven product that they are now trying to sell to the market. It's up to you. TF has the specs needed for an FD kit i gave them dimensions already.

Thumbs up hose tech!

dude hose tech was good stuff! just did all the hose's when i did my motor job and had a little left over. by the kit it is worth it $118 BUCKS
plus they give you a cool cutting tool (looks like a cigar cutter ha ha ha)and plenty of zip-ty's .. i put it up to farrell's hose it was just about the same and i had no kinking what so ever!!! e-mail me for the pic's that had tight bends and it has held up so far

Hose Techniques hose definitely is the best kink-resistant silicon hose that i've seen. I would agree that you should consider going with viton or something that has better resistance to gas and oil though. It will be more expensive, but its probably worth it. I don't think you go wrong either way, it will hold you for several years at least. The silver HT hose has a silver paint lining on the outside that might help repel the oil/gas fume, and it matches in with the cast aluminum well.

I can't believe people seriously consider putting silicone hoses in their cars after seeing this. Talk about a ticking time bomb under hood! The stock Neoprene may be bad, but at least it doesn't turn into a glob.

You should also read this document http://www.geocities.com/sdrx7_club/hosedebate.pdf which states that silicone hose should be good for 5-10 years after installation. That means you could get 30-60 years worth of silicone hose for the price of doing the job in Viton. Also those test conditions seem much harsher than what the hoses are really seeing in our engine bays. Not all of the hoses will see oil/oil vapor, and certainly none will be soaking in it for 1000 hours straight. Are you the same Mike P that wrote the temp gauge pdf's for the SD RX-7 Club? If so did you also write these 2?

Silicon Hose: Experiment versus Real Life Operation

I've read the vacuum hose test and I do not question the veracity of the experiment. I also don't question the results of the tests or that Viton is a superior hose. However, I view the experiment as more a test to determine the failure conditions for silicon hose and not a test that replicates the actual operating conditions that vacuum hose see on the FD3S.

I believe that silicon hose of sufficient wall thickness will provide more than acceptable vacuum hose service on the FD3S, and that the more superior (and extremely expensive) Viton is overkill.

So, let me ask this, "Has anyone using silicon vacuum hose on their FD3S had a silicon hose failure similar to the one described in the hose test?"

slightly off topic:
how difficult is the vacume hose replacement, is it something I can do myself? I have heard lots of differnt opinions on this... I will probably use hose technique just cause I know I will get enough, and $100 is not much for a reliablity mod. any input woud be greatly appreciated.

I was curious about this as well ... is there a FAQ on this somewhere, or step-by-step instructions with pics of where each line is?
