whats up everyone??
my friend just bought a 93 base, the guy he bought it from told him to run vr1 20w-50 only, is there any specific reason he would say that, i think the manual says 10w-30. he has been running that for a awhile, so should he stick with it??

I would not run 20w-50 in cold weather. Stick with 10w30 for the cooler months of the year.

If it was my stock FD I would run Mobil1 10w30 in the winter and Mobil1 15w50 in the summer.

the Valvoline VR1 racing oil is good **** as well for a non-synth oil. A good friend used it religiously for ~30,000 miles and when his coolant seals let go and the motor was torn down it looked brand new internally.

I've been running Mobile1 10w30 (cool weather), 15w50 (warm weather). The car feels so much smoother, and it runs cooler than non-syn.

huh, when we picked the car up, the guy said he put synthetic in it once and had tons of smoke out the exhuast ???

the car has 101,500 on the chassis, and second owner has paperwork from a rebuild 19,000 miles ago, though its unclear by the paperwork exactly what was done, the bill was around 5g's

is there any reason why it would eat the syn up like that??

No, the car would not eat up synthetic like that .... but the turbos would. My guess is the 'guy' had some suspect turbos and the more fluid synthetic was getting past the carbon seal. That's no surprise ... I'm sure it was a headache he didn't want to deal with; hence, why he sold the car to your friend. 5 grand ... I hope your friend got some brand spankin' new turbos for that amount of money.

no when the guy told us about this, and said it happened to him it was way after the rebuild, hmmm so the turbos are probably shady..

why would the turbos eat the synth up though?????

blown seals?????
