Best clutch question
I did a quick search on this and found nothing so sorry if i am asking a stupid question.
I have a 1992 rhd fd from japan and my clutch is going.
the performance mods i have done are;
-high flow cat
-intake
-power fc
My intended goal is to make around 400-450 horse power when i am done with this car but i still want to be able to drive it around in the city (on a day to day basis in the summer)
What is the best possible clutch/flywheel/counterweight combination I can get to handle that kind of power but still maintaining the (more or less) "street" feel?

I ran the ACT HD/ SS with the prolite flywheel, it was great until I tried to launch it hard at the track. Then it wouldn't hold at all. You'll need to get a new clutch if you make it to the 400 to 450 rwhp range. As it is now, you've got a long long way to go so I wouldn't worry about the SS not holding for now. It's a great clutch and it's very streetable.

sorry for the super noob question but if i were to get the xd instead of the hd would that hold up better for higher horsepower? or does it have everything to do with the disk.
and what is SS?

Clutches are rated by torque (though everybody references HP when talking about them..)
I'm running an Exedy Stage 2 clutch with 325 (british) rwhp, would be about 370-380rwhp in the US. Using that and the stock flywheel and am quite pleased.
The SS people are referring to means Street/Strip.

^^so you are using this clutch? http://www.racinglab.com/exedy-clutch-s2-thick-029.html
other noob question: whats the difference between stage 1 through 4?
And what is the exact function of the clutch and the disk? For example why would I get the craziest clutch but just a street disk? I assume it has something to do with the slippage...
What about a counterweight? will the normal one suffice for anything act?

That looks about right, though I'm not using a 3-puck (I believe mine is either 4 or 6), I'd have to look through my receipts to be sure.
Mine handles really well and isn't too rough on engagement (I wear wrestling shoes to drive for better pedal feel though). Takes the power like a champ, and 350+ on a 7 is more than you'll ever really need ^_^
I got mine from www.rx7.com (clutch isn't listed on website, call in and ask them). I'd say check there, the guys working there know their stuff and would be able to help you with the right setup.

I am running this exact setup, ACT Xtreme PP w/ Street Disc and the ACT ProLite flywheel. I LOVE this setup... I've long thought of the 9.5lb flywheel as my favorite mod. The engine revs so freely, and the the clutch is completely streetable, very smooth. I had an ACT six puck unsprung hub w/ the Xteme pressure plate on my old Prelude and it was awful, such a bitch to drive around town. I would not recommend an unsprung hub for any street car.

i hate when people say this...
there are actually a few choices(while still keeping a smooth clutch feel):
act street strip
centerforce duel friction(i have this and it works wonderfully)
exedy twin disk
these will all give you what your looking for. if you really plan on making 300+TORQUE, then go with the exedy. the act ss and centerforce df wont hold up near as well. the exedy will cost you alot though. most likely $800-$3500.
and with the flywheel...if you want a stock feel. keep the stock flywheel! if you get a lightened it will make the revs drop a good bit faster. if your tracking your car, then go as light as possible and get used to bliping the throttle...alot
