best boost gauge for buck?

ok, so i obviously need a boost gauge. i'm looking at all the used ones for sale on the forum, but i have no idea which ones i should avoid, which to trust, etc etc.

let's say i were buying a new one - what's a good gauge for a reasonable price? i want it to look as close to stock as possible, too.

thanks!

autometer looks stock with the needles and amber lighting, also one of the cheapest. Mine works fine

If you want stock looking go for the Blitz gauge. I had the Autometer and ditched it for the Blitz gauge b/c it was so much better looking for the RX-7. They told me that that was the car they designed the gauge for. The lighting is white but I took the bulb out and put a red/orange sleeve over it and now it is exactly the same as my stock gauges. The needle even glows red like the stock gauges. It is only about $20 more than Autometer too. It was a lot more accurate too.

Here are some pics.

i have autocrapper and they suck. The guage needle tends to stick. you do get what you pay for. But it's good enough for me.

My autometer is fine.. Hmmmm.. For saving money get one that takes the readings manually with a hose that connects to the intake, not one of those electronic boost gauges which you have to rewire the whole car to install.

Mike, why are you asking these chumps when you can call up the authority? ... ME!

I would have to say avoid Autometer. I know you're on a budget so Defi is out, but they're my favorite. The Blitz is a great gauge. Greddy and HKS both make nice gauges for decent prices. I wouldn't reccomend Apex gauges though, mainly based on looks.

Just try and find an electronic gauge if possible - as opposed to a mechanical gauge. If you can get electronic in your price range, then go for it.

So Autometer sucks?
Where did you get the Blitz gauges that look stock? I have been looking all over for stock looking gauges and the only ones I have found have been Autometer.

The Blitz and Defi gauges are very close to stock. The Defi guages are the best out, but a cost more $$$.

I have a Defi, and I'm really happy with it. It looks great and was pretty simple to install. Though, I do have to say that I just saw an ad in Turbo magazine for the new slim Blitz gauges, and they're pretty dope looking. Apex'i are cool looking too...probably all are of equal quality.
