Question best 3gen model?

What is the best model of the 3gen rx7? ive heard of touring R1, and I want to say R2 but not sure. Some time within 2 years I would like to get a 3gen after my 2nd gen project is done (which I cant wait to show off at some shows..im unique haha) But let me know.

They are all great, it just comes down to finding the one you want. Some have a sunroof, cruise, bose, leather, different springs, weight difference and some don't. The only thing I wish I had is a sunroof.

I really like the Sunroof, for sure. That's why I give my vote to the Touring. But I really like the R model lip and spoilers too.. (but my touring model has the R1 lip and spoiler). Also the 2nd oil cooler on the R models is a BIG plus as well (IMO)

3rd gen is a 13b twin (sequential) turbo. all models have same engine. base is lightest, touring has sunroof, R1 ('93) and R2 ('94-'95) have a really stiff suspension and the front splitter and rear wing.

13BREW = 13b engine, RE= Rotary Engine, W= I think twins, for the twin turbo, I read that the "W" in Japan means something like double.........Correct me if I'm wrong guys.......

HP=265 stock
And can someone post that 'Lighting Page" for TurboasT87II ?!? I forgot it

BTW, I love my Bose wave system (except CD player) and sunroof.......Touring

You'd be better off taking the Touring model and changing it over to an R model. Add the oil cooler, and wing and front lip. Then upgrade to aftermarker suspension, or if you really want to, I'm sure one of these people with the R model that have upgraded thier suspension can sell you thier springs.

I like the Popular Equipment Package of whatever it's called. I have a base but I miss the sunroof (the windows provide NO circulation whatsoever). I like the base seats much better though. I would not get the bose system (touring), and the r1/r2 issue doen't really matter because most people usually change all but the oil cooler within the first year anyway. Touring is heavier. I like the Base or the PEP. ALso you may be able to get a base model for a bit less if the owner doesn't know better (they are all worth about the same).

I was about to buy a R1, then I found a good deal on a Touring. I love the sunroof. I always use it and it's winter in Virginia. Weight differences aren't so huge unless you really want to race it on a track. If I took out all of my extra stuff, I'd save about 50-75 lbs at most.

I like my '94 PEP, it has the R1 lip, and rear wing, but also a sunroof and no bose. Just add good suspension and go.

No R-1/2 NEVER have Sunroof - Touring & Base could be ordered with Lip & Spoiler though.

Touring also has about 20 lbs extra sound deadening in adddition to the additional equipment (Sunroof, Rear wiper,Cruise Control, BOSE Wave, etc)

I love the creature comforts that come with my touring. of cousre that takes away from the "TRUE SPORTS CAR" thing but I am not that die hard into racing on the track. I just want a fast car with lots of options, that is why I love my touring, Also I dig not having a rear spoiler, rare considering that they put spoilers on minivans now. i am just wanting to build a car that has a great balance of everything, Fast, good stereo, handles, and nice options. The 3rd gen is a great base to start from for me. Whatever you choose you will be happy I am sure of that.

The 93 Touring weighs a whopping 62lbs more then the 93 R1 and 73lbs more then the 93 Base ('The Mazda RX-7:Mazda's Legendary Sports Car', Jack Yamaguchi, page 112).

Us Touring owners should hide our faces in shame.

Dclin,
you meant a WHOPPING 62lbs more than the "real" Rx7 (R1/2) .
