Behold the resocat!!!!

Since ive owned my fd, ive gone with a few exhaust variations. The completely stock exhaust system, hks high power with stock cat, high power with midpipe, high power with high flow cat, stock catback with midpipe, and stock catback with high flow cat. Each one had their goods but i wanted to keep big single tip look and noise levels down (damn cops) as well as have a cat for emissions purposes (again damn cops). I decided that to accomplish this i would need both a resonator and a cat.

Until recently i was running the stock catback and a custom midpipe with a magnaflow hf cat so I went ahead and removed the cat fromt he midpipe so i could start on the project. When i cut the cat from the pipe i noticed that half of the catalyst was missing! I guess thats what you get for running really rich with no airpump. Anyways now i needed a new cat. I decided after some reseach that if i wanted to stay with no airpump yet still beable to pass emissions and at the same time keep size in mind that i would go with one of the new cerametallic cats. I ended up finding one pretty cheap on ebay for 70 bucks. more specifically http://www.car-sound.com/02product/u...al/549spun.asp . I went with the 3" straight. Now for the resonator i used a borla xr-1 that i had sitting around that i bought from chuck @ rotary extreme a while back. Now that i had everything i needed i just needed to do a lot of cutting, welding, and test fitting. The results:

Great Job on a custom project to get something exactly the way you want it. I love seeing this kind of stuff.

Looks great, but I hope that cat holds out awhile. I've heard they get beat up pretty badly by the hot rotary exhaust gases......

It's no good if it does'nt do what it's suppose to which is, pass emissions and keep noise level down like you wanted. Should've posted this after your test.

Hey Rich, I'm still on it bro. It's not dead. I should be getting that modified prototype back soon. Hopefully this one will be correct and I won't have to send it back.

SCC (October issue I think) had an article on cats, how they work and comparing the various types.

There's a reason ceramics are so cheap - they don't last.

You may be buying another soon.

And if the cat does end up pooping out on me like the last one..like jkstill said they are cheap so its not really too big of an issue replacing the cat..or possibly in the future i might remake one with a higher quality random tech cat.
