ok the car finally started ... a lot of smoke coming out from the tailpipe since i put ATF in the plug holes ... besides that i noticed there are smoke coming out from the turbo side is it normal ? since its been sitting for a long while ... i let it run until the temp gauge reaches to the middle (operating temp?) and the tach reads around 1200 ... anything adnormal in this stage ?

thanx for any input

ok i forgot to check the oil level i guess it was low so i put like 3 bottle of oils in and crank it up again ... it didnt smoke as much as before from the turbo area ... luckily it was just idling ... so i dont think i toasted the turbo ... i found out that theres a leak on the heater hose on the driver side ... from block to hard line ... how hard is it to replace it ?

thanx

The smoke from the turbos was most ikely from the short run period that most likely put atf in them and then sat there, it may also point to some cracks in the exhaust manifold or bad gaskets, I will have to guess you didn't change fluids as i don't see any other reason for it being low on oil and you not noticeing....three quarts is quite a bit for this motor. The temp gauge will come up to half way before it actually reaches operating temperature and 1200 isn't unusual for an idle but seems a bit high for a stock vehicle. If the heater hose is bad I'd replace all the hoses just to avoid any surprises.

Glad to hear you got it running, now dont get in a big hurry do fluids and check everything and take your time so far you have been lucky. Let us know the results.

1200 is normal until the car has been drivin...mine sits at 1200 until i drive for a few miles or so and put a little stress on the engine..then it falls back to 500 but after start up it never drops that low

This is debatable - IMHO the short runs cause more trouble with engines that aren't running quite as well as you want, have flooding issues, or poor compression.

An FD motor in good running condition can be stopped and started repeatedly without issue. If the car gives you no problems with starting or flooding, short runs are perfectly acceptable. With this car, I'd change all the fluids and take it for a couple of drives (not out into the desert, mind you) and after that you'll have a good idea how it's running.

Of course the caveat is that cold engines wear down more quickly, so just like a piston engine the more starts/stops the more quickly the engine wears. But that's usually insignificant.
