Question battery power drainage

About a month ago I tried starting my FD in the morning and it was dead, I diagnosed a faulty relay to my fans ( they wouldnt turn off even with no key in ignition hence power drainage) so until I get round to fixing the problem I have unplugged the fans and the battery stays charged fine starts first pop.

Its three weeks later and this morning I get up to start the car and its dead again!? I checked under the hood and my fans are still unplugged so its not them, it seems I'm now losing power elsewhere in the car even though it has been starting fine for the last three weeks.

Could having the fans unlugged be causing a new problem to my voltage?

How old is your battery? Mine did this and it ended up being the battery.

Put a multi-meter in circuit with your battery and see how much power is getting drawn when the car is off.

I have also heard of people having a similar problem where there glovebox light wasn't going out when the glovebox was closed...

What are you running for engine management? The power fc puts a small constant drain on the battery.

its a brand new battery ( I replaced it ) and I am running a stock computer, The glove box sounds like a good theory as mine is pretty loose when it is closed

check the air pump. my electronic clutch on the pump had a short and would draw power and kill the battery overnight. installed a new pump and solved the problem

My glovebox light remains on constantly..Is this going to drain my brand new battery in a short period of time?

I have heard the glove box light can drain the battery over long periods of not driving the car.

The first thing I would do is connect up a multi-meter and check how much power is getting drawn from the battery when the car is off... This will tell you if you have something draining the battery....

I dont know if this will help much, but I know that the FD Alternator looks for a constant 12v source even when the car is shut off. If it isnt it creates a draw on the battery and can dain it. So maybe it is possable something could be wrong with the alternator? Double check my info first, dont want to post wrong information, i just know this from doing a FD Alternator swap into my FC. Hope it helps...

I'm only ever boosting stock psi, you may then ask why bother with all the mods? well I do plan on getting a new computer soon

Best bet is to hook up a multi meter, and see the current Draw with everything off.

I forget what it pulls, something small. From there if you’re drawing some power start pulling fuses till you fin the circuit that has the draw. if its nothing obvious on that circuit. Its time to get the workshop manual out, and trace everything attached to that circuit.

Time consuming and mind boggling. Mine turned out one time to be an amp never shutting off. Just take your time.

Also its your cars way of being pissed at you for not driving it for 3 weeks.

My car has sat for a month and the battery was fine and it cranked right up. I now keep a trickle charger on her when I have her down for an extended period of time. If you have a bad alternator they aren't that hard to pull apart and rebuild.

IIRC the drain should be under 50mA. Mine was 25-30 when I checked it.
