Which battery?

I need a small battery to fit under the hood. I am not sure what everyone is using.
I checked with Mazda, the Miata battery is only rate 370 CCA while FD need 525. I am a little worried because of the winter temp. here in NJ.

Thanks.

try the search function with the words "mini battery" or "battery" or "pc680" these should turn up some old threads.

Is CCA a big concern? Can't find anything that's close to 525. PC680 @ 210CCA, Miata battery @ 370CCA. I was told by the dealer I should get something between 500-550CCA for FD. What do everyone think?

You should hack up the bin to get it in, otherwise it will just be sitting in the bin! Cut out the bottom so you can bolt it to sheetmetal. You will run into problems if you dont

i dont know why you need to go smaller battery, but if you want my opinion i say go with the honda battery. my buddy and i swapped a good ol, duralast gold from the ZONE and its working great. he cut the tray in half. reason for doing this was because the M2 medium intercooler. works sweet. THANKS AUTOZONE you know what im talking about donovan. came out nice. if you want NASCAR batteries at kragens has a KILLA lawnmower battery. 500 CCA's i think. ill check that out for you guys. you only need it to start the car right

Sold about 70 of these. If your interested in a great product professionally built reply here. I'm interested in starting a group buy.

I went to Sevenstock5 and saw too many Med sized ICs rubbing on the battery. This tray along with the 51R battery eliminates that problem. PERFECT FIT!

I left my parking lights on for 4 hours today, started right up.

The tray that turbojeff sells is very high quality. Got one for my car, because of rubbing on Med IC. Perfect fit, and strong. 51R battery is about 27-28lbs, and is probably about 1.5 inches narrower than stock. CCA is in the mid 500 range.

I got the slightly larger (but still much smaller than stock) PC925 battery. All i had to do was trim the stock battery tray down, put a tie-down strap around it, and get a positive lead extender (Trak auto) and i've got TONS of leftover room and saved 14 lbs.

It's simple. I don't want to build a bunch of trays up and have them sitting around. If only one or two are built then the price will be more like $125 ea.

If we get ~25 people in on a group buy the price will drop down to approx $45-50/ea and I won't run the risk of owning dozens of them.

The 51R battery can power the fans for at least 20min with the car off and start it up no problem. It allows more room for a Med sized IC and lets more air out of the radiator and takes about 10lbs out of the nose of the car.

I'll contact Jason to get an official group buy together.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. The tray is laser cut and professionally welded.

Jeff
